         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>To</strong> complete the shuttle, <strong>oxaloacetate</strong> must be <strong>transported</strong> from the matrix <strong>to</strong> the <strong>cytoplasm</strong> but there is no such <strong>transport</strong> system. Instead, <strong>oxaloacetate</strong> is first converted <strong>to</strong> aspartate by aspartate aminotransferase and then <strong>transported</strong> out of the <strong>mitochondria</strong> via the glutamate-aspartate translocase.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Oxaloacetate must be interconverted to return to the matrix.<br><br>1: CITRATE turns to OXALOACETATE and Acetyl CoA in the cytoplasm.&nbsp;<br><br>2: Oxaloacetate and NADH bind to form MALATE (still in cytoplasm)<br><br>3: Malate turn to pyruvate and NADPH (still un cytoplasm)<br><br>4: FInally, pyruvate CROSSES the membrane back into the mitochondrion (in mitochondrion).<br><br>5:In the mitochondria, the pyrivate is made BACK TO OXALOACETATE by the enzyme PYRUVATE CARBOXYLASE.</div>]]></description>
