The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who gained attention in 2016 after kneeling during the national anthem in protest of racism. This Nike ad has gained enormous worldwide attention and has stirred up controversy discussed on a variety of different social media platforms. In 2016 Colin Kaepernick started to sit down during the national anthem to protest against racial inequality in the United States. Going unnoticed at first, he later started to gain worldwide attention from celebrities, politicians and from fellow NFL players along with a slew of other athletes from other sports who joined in to support his movement. Later becoming a free agent in 2017 Kaepernick was blackballed by the NFL and files a collusion lawsuit for depriving him of employment. While many support his movement many disagree. This video is important to this event because his explaining why he’s kneeling after protesting in silent opening up a bigger conversation in his country.
