The more land they had meant the more land they had to pay for, and the more people they had stationed there meant more people they had to pay for. Ultimately the process left Great Britain in such debt that they had to place taxes on the American colonists. The taxes would then cause a war in the near future, which GB would ultimately lose to the colonists. This great war was known as the American Revolution which took place during 1775-1783. Also it's not just that it is also the fact they had two war making them deploy even more soldiers making their financial situation harder and harder. This lead to more taxation which lead to the colonists revolting because taxes were put on essential items.
