The three fifths compromise was a alternative for the states to agree about slaves representation. While no one was able to agree if slaves should count towards representation, some state delegates proposed the idea that slaves would count to have representation, but only three fifths. That meant that every 5 slaves counted as 3 people, as in the name three fifths compromise. Slaves would also be accounted for 3/5 of tax.
