He is killed by Xibalba and goes the Land of the Dead to see Carmen, his mother. He goes to see if Carmen will like Maria or not. While he goes, he has to face the candle marker which leads Manolo to Xibalba. Once Manolo gets to him, he has to get through him which takes a while and determination. The reason why he had to do this was because he made a deal with ala Muerte about Maria’s heart. If Manolo won over Maria’s heart, Xibalba would have to no long interfere with the human world anymore. While choosing this, he has to face many challenges. He has defeat Xibalba which is La Muerte. He also has to face fighting over Maria with Joaquin. He decides to defeat the bull of Xibala by signing a song to him and playing his guitar. This was a surprise because no one expected Manolo to do this. While Manolo was signing, he was confident about what he was doing and wasn’t scared.
