This book mainly focuses on gangs, and shows that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Just because these boys are in a gang, it doesn't mean they don't do good things. Ponyboy Curtis lives with his two brothers, and learns that family is important, whether you have parents or not. Great book with lots of action, but at the same time, tells the story of family.

This novel was unlike anything I had never read before. Since it was full of new ideas, I didn’t want to put the book down. It was like the author was living in Melody’s perspective, it was so descriptive.

Melody is a 10 year old girl living with cerebral palsy. She cannot walk, talk, eat, or go to the bathroom. Doctors think she is retarded and brain damage, but she is in fact very intelligent. She remembers everything she learns. The problem is, nobody understands her. She feels like a fish out of water.

Reading Melody’s story was remarkable. The author did a great job of showing how brave, smart, and tough Melody really is, despite the daily challenges she faces. This novel taught me to persevere through hard times, even if they might last a lifetime.

The ending to this book was more practical, which is much better than a simple happy ending. In fact, the entire story was very realistic, and it was so easy to imagine each event taking place. Out of my mind was an extremely diverse book.

A poor girl named America Singer lives in a small town called Illea. She is far from royalty. In this town, people are in castes, which are like social classes/levels. America is a 5, which is pretty low. She and her family make money from doing art and playing music. There is a competition called the Selection, where 35 girls are chosen, and in the end, may be the wife of the prince. America is chosen, and has to see how she can scope out the competition, but at the same time, charm the prince into loving her. This book was absolutely amazing, and I am stoked to read the rest of the series.

Hannah Baker, a young girl in her teenage years, commits suicide, leaving everyone wondering why she did it. Before her suicide, Hannah sent out a box of tapes. 7 tapes. 13 stories. Each story about a person. Each person is one of the reasons why she killed herself. Clay Jensen, one of her friends, receives the set of tapes. He wonders why he was one of the reasons. He didn't know Hannah that well, after all. Although this book was very sad, it deals with issues facing our world today, and I really loved it. I highly recommend it.

This book was pretty good. The beginning and some parts of the middle were boring, but I think the end really tied the story together and made it more interesting. Basically, a young girl named Amari lives a wonderful life in her village. One day, white people come, and take Amari and other villagers as slaves. They endure a very hard journey, and Amari is sold to Derbyshire farms to a boy named Clay as his birthday present. On the farm, she befriends Teenie, Tidbit, and Polly. Amari must learn to speak English, deal with Clay, and heal from the beatings from Mr. Derby. All Amari wants is to be back with her family in her own village again, but sadly, the only choice is to escape.

I really enjoyed this book, I read it in about 3 days. It's about a young girl named Beatrice Prior, who goes by Tris. Society is split up into 5 factions, Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. Each faction values a certain trait. Once children turn 16, they can choose to stay in the faction they were born in, or they can choose a new one. Tris was born in Abnegation, which values selflessness. At the Choosing Ceremony, she chooses Dauntless, which values bravery. In Dauntless, she meets new friends such as Christina, Will, and Al. She also meets Tobias, her boyfriend. Tris passes Dauntless initiation, which is very difficult. She soon learns that Erudite wants to overthrow the Abnegation government by using a serum that controls peoples minds. However, Tris is Divergent, so it doesn't affect her. She and Tobias work together to shut it down.

There were WAY too many characters, which made the book super confusing. There was also a happy ending, which was super predictable. I especially didn't like the pirates, I feel like this book was more a romance than a survival. I do not recommend this book.
