The porter of Macbeth's castle, who had drunk a lot of wine is walking around. Then as the knocking continues, he calls on the names of demons and evil people, all whilst calling himself the porter of hell. Later on, Macduff and Lennox meets the porter and talk about the effects of that drinking has: marry, nose painting, sleep and urine. Then, Macduff and Lennox goes to wake Duncan up, meeting Macbeth on the way. Macbeth talks about the night with Lennox and Macduff. They reach Duncan's room and Macduff goes to wake Duncan. Macduff then finds Duncan's corpse. Macbeth acts all panicked and shocked. Lennox is actually shocked. Macduff sounds the alarm bell and wakes everyone up. Donaldbain and Malcolm heard the news and was just nonchalant. Macbeth tries to justify his act of killing the guards by saying that he was extremely infuriated. Lady Macbeth appears and pretends to be a frail maiden, fainting after hearing the news/seeing the body. The rest decide to leave to contemplate who the new king should be. They all leave, except Donaldbain and Malcolm, who decide to leave the country for they suspect one of them to be the murderer. The scene ends

The porter describes Macbeth's castle as "hell" and Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as the devil. Macbeth, Macduff and Lennox enter the scene together with Macbeth, then Macduff goes to wake up King Duncan. However, he is found dead and both Macbeth and Lennox hurry to find out what happened. Macbeth kills the guards to cover up his crime and brushes it off as a fit of anger. Duncan's sons Malcolm and Donalbain are informed and they decide to part ways and head to England and Ireland respectively. However, it is unsual to see Malcolm and Donalbain not react wildly to their father's death. Rather, they are selfish and only plan to move away to protect themselves.

The porter is the gate-keeper to Macbeth's castle. He acts as a comic relief throughout the intense play. He says that he is the "keeper of the gates of hell" so he is referring to Mb and lmb as devils which is quite accurate as before this scene mb and lmb had killed a king. Macduff and lennox than comes in and tells the porter that he has been drinking to much. Mb than comes in. Macduff goes to check on the king while lennox talks to macbeth. He says that is had been an ''unruly'' night with ''strange screams of death'' Mb seems to be uncomfortable as he only replies with short sentences. Awhile later macduff comes in yelling that the king is dead. Macbeth acts like he had no idea and seems worried. They rush to go and check what had happened while lennox blows the horn to inform everyone of the terrible news. lmb and banqo enter along with everyone else. Mb comes in saying how bad what has happened was. In a way trying to seem innocent. lmb than faints and macduff ask her to go rest as woman should not hear such a cruel thing. However its ironic because lmb was the one who created the plan and this hints to the female stereotype. Malcome and donaldain were suspicious about all this and decided to leave for the fear that they might be killed. in the next scene macduff comes from the castle and tells ross that mb is now king by the lords and he is suspicious of mb and lmb that they could be the killers. and ross feels that is it weird how the sons were framed to kill duncan their father as they have no motive

in act 2 scene 3, Macbeth and Lennox came to rouse Duncan .Macbeth then arrives and tells them the king is still sleeping. Macduff heads off to wake the king, and promptly returns, screaming bloody murder. He wakes up the whole castle, including Lady Macbeth, who pretends to be shocked and horrified at the news.his actions shows how Macbeth feels a great deal of remorse after he has killed the king. He understands that he has committed a sin and will be punished. terrified, he also hears voices telling him:“ Macbeth does murder sleep, … , Macbeth shall sleep no more”. he heard this, which also shows how guilt-ridden he is, as he knows his conscience will never let him rest.

The drunken porter is the gate-keeper of the castle, and refers to the gates as the "gates to hell", symbolising that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are devils. Macduff and Lennox enter and Macduff goes to wake Duncan up, only to discover that he is dead. Macbeth exits and talks to Lennox, who describes the night as "unruly"; the disrupt in nature being a result of the murder of a King. Macduff runs out and announces that Duncan has been killed. Macbeth announces that he killed Duncan's guards in a rage, and Lady Macbeth faints. Malcom and Donaldbain come up with a plan to flee the country in fear that their father's killer might target them next.

Macbeth and Lennox came to wake Duncan up only to find out Duncan was murdered. When Macduff announces Duncan's murder and Macbeth casually announces that he killed both of the guards. Lady Macbeth then uses her femininity to appear weak and faints to divert attention. Since Malcolm was the next king, they feared they might suffer a similar fate as Duncan so Malcolm and Donalbain decide to leave as a way of protecting themselves from assassination.

lennox recalls how "unruly" the previous night was because of the blown chimneys, which shows that order has been disrupted because of the murder of king duncan which also occurred the previous night.macduff would then appear to announce the regicide of duncan. lady macbeth tried to act innocent and fragile so she pretended to faint to make her seem like a culprit. malcolm and donalbain flee the castle as they feel unsafe thinking they would be the next target at macbeth's castle
