         <description><![CDATA[<div>Upon His graduation General Pershing had served in the 6th Cavalry. During a number of engagements against the Sioux and Apache tribes. During the Spanish -American War he commanded the all black 10th Calvary. While stationed in the Philippine Islands from 1899-1903 and during his time there he led the American forces against the Philippine resistance. By this time he has earned the nick name Black Jack for his time during his service with the African American 10th Calvary, the moniker came from his stern demeanor and rigorous discipline. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Pershing was a mediocre student but was a natural leader, he was the president and first captain of the west point class of 1886. He the n returned to the academy as an tactical officer in 1897. He was nick named Nigger Jack or Black Jack by the cadets by cadet who resented his iron discipline. In 1898 he wen to San Juan Hill with his black troopers, proving himself " as cool as a bowl of cracked ice" while under fire from Spanish sharpshooters, who had killed or wounded 50 percent of the regiment's officers. Then came three tours in the Philippines , mostly in Mindanao, where He Pershing displayed an ability to combine the force and diplomacy to disarm the island's fierce Moro Warriors. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1905 Pershing had married Helen Francis Warren. Warren was the daughter of the chairman of the Senate Military Affairs Committee. With his friendship with President Theodore Roosevelt and with the combined marital connection this then elevated him from the rank of Captain to Brigadier General in 1905. This over the head of 862 other senior officers. </div>]]></description>

June 1882 Attended an academy ran by former Confederate officer Colonel Claeb  Huse for six months, prior to entering the academy.<br>3.June 1886 Pershing graduates ranking 30th in his class. I was a t west point that he earns the name Black Jack.<br>4. September 1886 2nd Lt. Pershing reports for duty with the 6th Calvary at. Fort Bayard New Mexico. He participated in the Wounded Knee Campaign.  <br>5. 1895-96 Served in various Calvary assignments in the west, including the 10th Calvary, the black Buffalo Soldiers. </div>]]></description>
