My dad did something different with his life. Instead of going to college like many others, my dad worked very hard and made his own business. My dad faced many hardships of being a small entrepenuer. He had to start from nothing. Just an old truck and some money he had saved and worked hard for. He built up his reputation and got some big jobs that helped him out. My dad worked his butt off. He would face stresses and almost always be working, but the point is, he worked hard and did his own thing and provided for his family.

My biggest role model is my dad. He works hard, laughs with me, and tries to give me the best life I can have. My dad has influenced me in so many ways. He loves me more than anyone I know, but he still wasn’t afraid to tell me when I wasn’t working hard or I could be doing better. That helped me. I didnt go whine and say my dad doesn’t love me, i saw if helping and it was an important part of my childhood. I have seen this already help me. I’ve had three jobs all a different times of the year, and I worked my butt of to have the nice things that I love like my truck. My dad has helped me a lot with lessons and providing for me. He is my role model.

Sonny is just a kid from a small mining town. He has large hopes and dreams but those may not be enough because of where he comes from and his community. Sonny wishes his town was something more. Nobody knows about it, and the only things its got going are high school football and coal. Sonny shows his disappointment in his community the night he sits on his back step and dreams about what it would be like to be on von Braun’s team, but suddenly he comes back to reality realizing that “I was a boy in Coalwood, West Virginia. All of a sudden, that wasn’t good enough” (Hickman Jr. 33). Sonny believes that this small town cant get him anywhere which may seem some what true. He is picturing his life without it and it seems better. He doesn’t like his community because all they picture is coal and football. Sonny knows there is more, but his community does not. He doubts and other concerns about his community are also seen when he is having a conversation with Quentin. Quentin states that ‘;Maybe one day we’ll have a trophy in here, Sonny, for our rockets,” then Sonny replies with: “Are you kidding” (Hickman Jr. 79). Sonny has no faith in his little community to show that they will realize they’re rocket accomplishments. He doesn’t think they’ll do it. Sonny really does not believe in his community with his dreams.
