I used Stanislavski's technique of actioning and character objectives to develop an understanding of the characters intentions and motives.

We began the rehearsal process by doing a group read through of the script.We discussed the contrast between the real and virtual world with the director (Amie) and writer (Imogen) and carried out another read through with those notes in mind. We then went on to write character back stories. This was really beneficial as we were able to discuss our characters as a group which meant we could add more detail. Creating a backstory for a character really helps me delve deeper into the intentions of the character. We then proceeded to run a hot seating exercise, this ensured we were beginning to explore the mind set of our characters in relation to each other and the narrative of the script.

We continued to develop character by taking part in some improvisation exercises. I find improvisation a very useful way to explore characters. We were given several scenarios and each created an improvised scene. For example, I was given the scenario in which Emma is revealing to Jamie that she doesn't want to keep their baby.

I was raised by my Mother in a small town called Stone. My mother fell pregnant with me at 18 years old, my father was never in the picture. We have always had a very close relationship mostly due to the fact we grew up alongside one another. As I grew older I became interested in design, specifically graphic design. I decided I wanted to move to the city to follow my dreams, my mother supported me wholeheartedly. Her main aspiration for me was to ensure I didn't fall pregnant at a young age in the same way she did with me. 
At 20 I moved to Manchester to study and a year later managed to get at internship with a successful graphic design company. 

I met Jamie, my husband, through mutual friends. We hit it off straight away. We have similar interests in music, sport and gaming. I've always admired his strong drive and kindness towards others, he is very understanding but can be overly sensitive at times. He's always been supportive of my work. 

My best friend Lilly and myself met at one of her art exhibitions. I have always admired her art, she is extremely talented. We have similar opinions on life and what we deserve. We drive each other and have an extremely strong bond, we've been through a lot together, which only brings us closer. I admire her relationship with Alan, they are perfect for each other. Although i struggle to admit it and would never say it to her face but I wish my relationship with Jamie could be more like theirs. 

I would describe myself as a kind caring person with a lot of love to give. I can sometimes be taken for granted due to this which is something i'm working on. Due to it being a 2 minute continuous shot we had to ensure we were all hitting our marks at the right time. Rehearsing each scene individually in pre-production meant we had time to play around within the dialogue and how we were delivering it which therefor meant we would be performing it at it's absolute best.]]> 2019-03-20 20:32:18 UTC https://padlet.com/m_challinor1/j4u4u6b04xbw/wish/343537392 Log 1 m_challinor1 https://padlet.com/m_challinor1/j4u4u6b04xbw/wish/344587776 The biggest shoot of the first week was shot in The Living Room Restaurant and Bar. Scene 1 – ‘Extravagant party that begins with a tracking shot of Jamie interacting with his friends and co-workers before he makes a speech about the company’. This shoot ran across two days due to some technical issues. This meant it was our responsibility as actors to ensure we remained focused and vigilant so that the crew could work to their best abilities. Due to this shot being a 2-minute tracking shot the rehearsal time in pre-production week proved to be extremely helpful. It meant we could rehearse all the movements and marks off set to ensure the shoot ran smoothly and to cut out any rehearsal time needed on set. Overall, I felt this shoot was a huge success and it was great to see the cast and crew working so well together. 

The final shoot of the week consisted of scenes 2,5,8,9,10,11,12,13 & 15 – This was the most challenging day for me as it was extremely long (11hrs) and draining. Due to the length of the day I had to remain focused on my performance to ensure I was taking on any direction from Amie quickly and executing it efficiently. The second group of scenes were the most challenging because I hadn’t rehearsed them in pre-production due to it being heavily reliant on the set. I did however use emotional recall and thorough script analysis to delve deep into my characters emotional response to the events in these scenes.  Amie’s directing was extremely helpful, I feel we work well as a team as she is very good at explaining what she expects from myself and the scene in general. Overall, I am extremely proud of my performance and feel this week has been a huge success.

The biggest challenge I faced whilst performing was with the pregnancy bump. The costume was extremely uncomfortable, especially within the tight, warm location. I had to take breaks between filming to take a breather outside. Although this shoot was challenging for me, I tried to create as little disruption to the filming as possible.  

The final shoot of the week took place in Salford at the Treehouse Cafe. We faced some harassment issues from members of the public on this shoot.
