On September 11th, 2001 a series of attacks happened in New York City. 19 al-Queda members committed these attacks killing almost 3000 people including themselves. 4 planes were hijacked and taken down. 2 of the aircraft flew into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center causing both of the towers to collapse. A 3rd plane crashed into the Pentagon and the 4th plane crashed into rural Pennsylvania.

After hearing the news that this was not just a hijacking but it was an attack on the U.S they all took a vote which led to the decision of them all taking a vote. They all collectively decided to fight back. After this, they devised a plan and put it into action. Todd Beamer was one of the many people who decided to fight against the attackers. His last words before he and the other passengers attempted to storm the cockpit were “Lets roll” since the term has been used as a command to start an activity and is especially used as a battle cry for American forces during the war on terror.

The 4th crash happened after the crew members decided to resist and fight back against the crew members on board. Some think the target for the 4th plane was meant to be the white house. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into an open field in Somerset County Pennsylvania. This crash had no survivors killing all crew members, passengers, and terrorists on the plane. This flight had 44 passengers including 2 pilots, 5 flight attendants, 33 passengers, and 4 hijackers. Flight 93 was the perfect target for these hijackers on a suicide mission. At approximately 9:37 am the hijacked Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon and the F.A.D. ordered all aircraft to land at the nearest airport. Many people landed but by that time flight 93 was not responding to any orders, at about 9:28 a.m. after 46 minutes of the routine flight across Pennsylvania. The hijackers took over Flight 93’s cockpit, which turned the plane southeast on a path toward Washington D.C which is the nation's capital.

The 4 hijackers on flight 93 was Ziad Jarrah,Saeed al Ghamdi, Ahmad al Haznawi, and Ahmed al Nami. Some believe that there was actually supposed to be 5 hijackers, the World Trade center attacks and the pentagon attacks both had an hijacking crew composed of 5 hijackers each. The leader of the hijacking crew was named Ziad Jarrah.He was very educated and came from a middle class background this made him look unsuspicios to others

George W. Bush Established the flight 93 memorial in September 2002 and it was fully opened to the public on September 10th 2015 .The structure stands 93 feet tall and has 40 chimes to represent the voices of the 30 passengers and crew. All of the chimes have a unique pitch and all together have a beautiful harmony and peacefully tune. The memorial is both a visual and audible reminder of the beautiful brave people who lost their lives that day on flight 93.
