One thing I think I was able to be passed from my mother especially I feel in an educational setting is my mindset with school. Like described in our assignment, aspirational capital can be described by the quote “Life is trying to get you, and you keep coming back for more.”

The reason I was able to grasp this especially in educational settings from my mother was because she went through the struggle of being “lost” in college and finding yourself late. She has always told me she struggled in her early/young college career but was able to keep pushing through adversity to ultimately get her masters degree years later.

With having a teacher for one of my parents, even from a young age, my mother instilled in me the will to always attempt to get back on me feet when I’m knocked down and she’s defined emphasizing this with schooling considering this is her field of “expertise” I guess you could say.

My father was a marine from 1996-2016. With this being said, in my younger days my father tended to be harder on me especially compared to now but he has purpose behind it. The reason for this was because he wanted to teach me the necessary things that it takes to deal with the world considering all that comes with it. The judging from people, the opinions, setbacks, etc.

Being in the military for 20 years provided my dad with a level of mental fortitude that is hard to obtain but is super beneficial considering how cruel the world can be in certain instances. When I was younger this was hard for me to see because of course I just viewed it as my father “giving me a hard time” or just getting on me for the sake of it but as I’ve grown up and talked to him more, he's showed me the reasoning behind this and I’ve definitely come around to see the benefits of this and I’m glad I was able to have this instilled in me.
