Megan Melton- I am teaching a math lesson on mixed word problems. I will use funds of knowledge in the lesson as most all of my students are very interested in drawing so when working through a word problem, they can use their artistic abilities and interests to draw a representation of the word problems. I will also use funds of knowledge as many of the word problems are about someone buying something. All students have previous shared that they enjoy going to the student store at school or the real store with their families so understand that things cost certain amounts and that you "get more" (addition) when you buy things.

Hi, this is Vanessa. I think I could use the students’ life experiences, learning preferences and grade level in order to make lessons that are engaging and interesting. For example, many of the students in the class enjoy having lessons in which they get to walk around to different stations, so I can have stations for them to measure different items, for the math concept they are learning this month. I also noticed many of the students care for their siblings. Therefore, I can create partner work for the exit tickets that are a bit more challenging.

For my lesson, I am teaching the elements of a story. The majority of my students are very into sports so when using an example story to map out the elements, I will pick one that has to do with sports to activate their interests. For my ELD students, I will preview the vocab for each element before introducing them as a class.
