This desire continued all the way to college, where she studied history because she thought it would give her the background she needed to write about social issues that interested her. Her childhood was the root of her interest in social politics. Her father's business was closed by Soviet's whose intention was to nationalize the country. Rand gained an opportunity to leave Russia after she graduated college. She thought America was the perfect example of a free society. She could write about anything she wanted without the government filtering her. She detested the communist ways of her old country, and adopted her new country with a passion.
