Here are examples of ways to use them. You might like to try others.

·      Write the comparison of the statistics.

·      Write how many times one is compared to the other. (For example, Saudi Arabia has 16 times more victims of slave labour than Australia).

Ask group members to find out:

·      In which sectors do low-paid workers work in your chosen countries.

·      What are the top three exports of your chosen countries.

·      What is the Gross Domestic Product of your chosen countries.

·      Discuss why slavery statistics might be different in your countries.

·      Discuss and make notes; be ready to report back to class.

Whereas Australia’s slavery rates seem very low at 1.6 of 100k of population, Saudi Arabia’s seem high at above 21 per 100k of population. Ann Davies of the Guardian (2025, para. 18) cites the anti-slavery commissioner James Cockayne as saying fruit-picking is of particular concern. In Saudi Arabia, accusations of poor worker conditions during the lead up to the FIFA world cup has been a concern (Pattisson, 2024, para. 1).
