The Surprise is a children's book about a girl named Kit who got a surprise for her birthday. The author described it as a soft, small sleepy surprise. When Kit left for school, her other animals could not figure out what the surprise was. Dora, Bob and Paul went on and on about all the strange traits the surprise had, until they decided that the surprise was an “oddball”, they called it. They asked the surprise all types of questions, including asking if it watched Animal World. The surprise kept responding the same thing: “I’ve only seen the Judo”. They left the surprise out, and put a sign on the door that wrote “pet’s only”. The surprise felt very sad, and tried to do numerous things to change ways about itself to fit in with the other animals. When Kit came home and gave the surprise a big hug, the other animals got jealous and started acting nice. She named her Maud, and that made the surprise feel very good about herself because she now felt like she fit in. When the other animals understood that Maud wasn’t odd, they apologized and wanted to hangout with her. They learned to be accepting of her differences.

The story, The Surprise, is a story about a group of animals in the same house that are not very welcoming to the new animal because it has differences from the rest of them. They judge the surprise for its size, looks and inability to do some of the same things that they do. They leave the surprise out when they do activities and hangout, and it makes the surprise very upset. As the book goes on, the surprise grows confidence in itself and eventually, Kit gives the surprise a name. The rest of the animals learn to be welcoming and accepting of the surprise and in the end, learn to love and be inclusive of the new animal in their home. I think it is a great story for younger students because it teaches them to be welcoming and accepting of everyone no matter what their differences are.

Summary: The book, You Are Enough, is a story about young children that are all different. It goes on about how being different is great and that everyone should love and appreciate their differences and their friends' differences. It talks about how friends can be there for one another and help each other during hard times. It teaches a lesson about being brave and looking past your fears with courage. This story gives children confidence about themselves at such a young age, and it is a lesson that will stick with them for a very long time.

I think this book is perfect for young students for many reasons. The first reason being that all of the illustrations are amazing. It shows drawings of children that share many differences and it shows the students that no matter what they look like they are amazing in their own ways! It also teaches students that being different can make you feel lonely and that's okay because there is also so much beauty in being different. This is definitely a story that I would read to my students and create an activity with.
