In addition, this event highlighted the economic inequality between workers and wealthy buyers, as well as the poor management of the workers. Despite those in power gaining more and those who are considered to be less staying at the bottom due to globalization spreading the influence of more extensive authority, it is overall a good thing, especially with social challenges, since there is now much more tolerance towards people of different backgrounds which leads to more global peace and equality. Globalization is the idea and process of ideas, people, businesses, etc. being integrated worldwide. It affects almost every aspect of life, from what is bought at the local grocery store to trade deals and politics. Globalization brings in many countries and people as it is a worldwide operation. However, some of these countries and people are more influential than others. The more prominent governments and people with more power will inevitably take control of globalization. This means they reap more of the benefits. It is believed that globalization makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. For example, a statistic states that “In developing regions, approximately 13 percent of the population is undernourished” (McGraw Hill, 35.2). This happens all while more muscular nations are just growing and growing. Globalization is supposed to help combat these issues by bringing everyone together, yet these struggling places and societies are still forced to struggle. Nevertheless, globalization has a much more significant positive impact on social challenges. A prominent social issue that has happened for centuries is discrimination. It is talked about in history books and on the news, and it is something that must be stopped. A lot of times, this discrimination and hate comes from ignorance and being taught incorrect information by others. Globalization helps to terminate this ignorance and wrong information by allowing different types of people to be in various parts of the world. One source says that, “Globally, there are an estimated 232 million international migrants and another 740 million internal migrants” (McGraw Hill, 35.2). This means that many people are not living in a place that is considered to be their “home” country. When people move, they are not only taking their beings with them. They take their items, their ideas, their personality, and more. All of those hold stories behind them, often influenced by how people were raised, their philosophy, and their culture. With more people from different backgrounds worldwide, many have become united. People become aware and learn directly when they encounter others who are different. This slows discrimination down, allowing many to take advantage of the benefits of not only globalization but life in general. In spite of globalization spreading the influence of more ample rule, it is a satisfactory movement, especially concerning social challenges, since there is more overall acceptance, leading to greater global equality and harmony.

John Gast’s “American Progress,” 1872, shows the idea of manifest destiny, how white Americans were divinely destined to go conquer the less advanced west. This relates to globalization in that Europeans similarly, gained wealth through conquering and influence, the idea of the white race being superior arose, gained popularity and spread to the rest of the world, being a negative thing for non-white communities. - Julissa
