Although most cases of breast cancer are not caused by inherited genes, but if it is, it depends on the gene involved. It involves the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene. BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes gives instructions for proteins to act as a tumor suppressor. In this case, these genes are inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern.

Breast cancer can be detected up to 2 years before a lump can be felt through a mammogram. You can also get ultrasounds and possibly an MRI. There is a way to detect if you have the harmful genes but cannot tell you if you will get cancer. The BRCA gene test is a blood test that uses DNA analysis to identify harmful mutations) in either one of the two breast cancer susceptibility genes — BRCA1 and BRCA2. If you get a positive test, it means you are more likely to get cancer.

Some patients have different options for their treatment. Very common, Chemotherapy can be used to shrink the cancer. Chemotherapy also can come in a pill for certain cancers. Radiation therapy is also very common. It uses high-energy particles or waves, such as x-rays, gamma rays, electron beams, or protons, to destroy or damage cancer cells. Some patients also get radiation after chemotherapy. In some cases, surgery can be used to take out the cancer if it has not spread to other organs. There is really no cure for breast cancer but there is targeted therapy drugs for genes. Lynparza is now being used to treat women with BRCA mutations who have metastatic, HER2-negative breast cancer and have had chemotherapy.
