mob football was invented in England , played in towns and villages.

The aim of the game was to move the ball to their goal which was either side of the village for both teams. They could kick and throw the ball to try and get it to their goal.

There were limited rules for example, no murder or man slaughter.

Anyone could play this game , men & women.

19th century.

19th century - public school. English public schools started to develop their own rules to football and in 1848, there was an attempt to make a set of rules at Cambridge university but there were not adopted.

1863- THE FA. This established in England created rules that were designed that distinguished association football from rugby football.

1872- the first international match took place which was England Vs Scotland.

Late 19th Centrury. Football spread throughout Europe and South America and professional clubs / leagues began to form. 1904- FIFA founded.

20th century.

1930- first ever FIFA world cup. This was held in Uruguay making a major milestone in global football. Mid to late 20th century, football started to become the world’s most popular sport with increasing social media coverage and commercialisation. In the late 20th centrury, the UEFA champions league was created which started to become the top competition in Europe.

21st century.

Football started to expand to new markets, growing with fan bases in Asia and North America (continued globalisation). There were a lot of technology advancements as VAR was introduced to improve officiating. There were also huge commercial growth as there were many sponsorship deals and television rights drive revenue. This made football a multi billion pound industry.
