Women have moved from jobs that were typically considered women jobs (clerical jobs, nurses, teachers)  to having the freedom to work in nearly any job. Although there are still problems, like higher unemployment, and spending more time on unpaid care work. Women's ability to participate in the workforce has vastly improved.

Each group has biased expectations. These expectations affect many women. There is pressure in society for women to be a certain way. The Pew Research Centre has a great article on this from a study they preformed. Traits and characteristics most valued in men according to the public: 33% honesty, 23% financial success, 19% ambition, 19% strength. When asked about womens characteristics and traits they gave different answers. Womens characteristics and traits: 35% physical attractiveness, 30% empathy, 22% intellegence, 14% honesty. The subjects were a mix of all kinds of cultures, genders, races, and nationalities. This shows that gender norms still affect the way we think and what is considered successful for women. Many see success for women as being empathetic and attractive while they see men as honest and rich. These norms hurt women and constrain them in what others expect. From the wage gap to significantly less media coverage than their male counterparts. Today they are still fighting for equal pay and equal media coverage. Women make up to 40% of sports people and only receive 4% of media coverage. On average female athletes are earning 63% of their male counterparts. Some people have the argument that “women’s sport isn’t interesting enough”. And even though over the years the popularity of women’s sports is growing, the media coverage and sponsorship money haven’t necessarily followed through and gender equality remains an issue. LB

Sex was something that was expected for a wife to provide her husband and it was only said to be pleasurable for men. Overtime, as social media became more prominent and women’s rights continued to improve, exploring the complexity of female sexuality became something more and more common. Sex was redefined by society and the concepts of virginity and heteronormativity are slowly being debunked and disregarded. While there is still stigma around it, stemming from misogyny, women have mostly been able to choose and experience intimate relationships freely. (CGA)
