Connotation Notes & Authors craft

Today I learned that authors use craft moves to control how readers think and feel. One way they do this is by choosing words with specific connotations. Connotation is the emotional meaning a word carries beyond its dictionary definition. Building a strong vocabulary for emotions is important because authors often try to shape our emotional responses. If I can tell the difference between words like annoyed, frustrated, and furious, I can better understand what the author wants me to feel and how their craft moves are working.

My inital reaction to this book was how right at the beginnig it touched on senstive topics and how it didnt sugar coat anyhting. As I read i was shocked on how deep and emotional it got as it let us read into belens problems surrung her parents and her getting catcalled while ehr best friend struggles with teen pregancy, I am looking forward to see how their story develops.

Throughout these chapters i have been able to dive deeper into the life of Belen. Belen has been emotionally brought down by his cousins and his sisters Ava. Trying to aviod their comments relating the abesensce of her father. Belen trys to distract her self by forming a new love interest alexis and working on her personal statement for her english class as well as involving ehrself more in Letis pregancy.

In these newer chapters leti finally exposes her pregnancy to her parents, it leads to her parents disapproval of her boyfriend because of his race and leads to leti being emotionally brought down. belen on the other hand has been trying to improve her grades with Ali and has been spending more time with him but she is longing for alexis.

In these notes we were able to distinguish the difference between figurative and literal. Figurative language means it stands in for something, it uses language to create and feeling or emotion instead of the presice definition of the exact object. Using figurative language is able to give more of a feeling to be able to understand the full message.

i finshed my book, and the end of these chapters belen was able to get more comfrtable with her self and her enviomrent instead of trying to push everything and everyone away by using things or people as distractions. Leti got into her dream school as well. Overall this book is very good and I'd glady recommend it to anyone.

These notes we were able to better understand SAY, MEAN, and MATTER as be able to annoate our notes by being able to understand what the author littertly says and what the meaning is and why it matters. It helps us understand the story as a whole and what the author wants us to take away from it.

In these notes we learned how different structrues can have an effect on the clow of the story. We learned that by controlling time we are able to reveal sunspense through delayed suspense and pushing forces.

Pt.2

We learned different time craft mvoes liek flash back which is used to be able to jump back into something that happened earlier. On the other hand their is time skip which instead are the momments where the writtery is telling you exaclty what happened which is expostion. Topic notes are about finding the message and theme, the overall topic is ideas and messages that are clear. A theme is a deeper hidden message the author wants us not the character to know.

My intial reaction to this book was confusion at the start as I wasnt sure why it started that way and I had a hard time figuring out the timeline, but through out the chapters I was able to figure it out and be able to feel empathy towards Francis since he has no family and has been traveling on his own while missing his family.

The third week reading this book I have grew to really like this book so far becasue I am able to see and hear each person coming to be stories so I am able to connect better with the characters as I am also able to see ross and frenchies love story progress, They also discover and meet another group of people just like them and are able to build more survival skills.

I have finshed by book and towards the final pages I was completely left in shock by the ending. Towards the end of the book minerva was sadly killed during the rescue mission shortly affter frenchie got reunited with his dad. zafter deciding to run away with rose they deicded to investgate the new people foudn and by doing so found issac, Miig husband. This book was so good and had many twist and turns. I give it a 4/5 and would recommend.

My initial reaction to this book was, realtion because hes around a simialr age as me as well as he is born into a hispanic family. I am introduced to dante as well as Aris family members I am interested to see how this book progresses.

My Intial reaction was confusion, as It started off in an odd direction as the man character Caiden was introduced and were were instantly in his mind and were explained how his mind works as it was a constant battle of paranoia against others. We were able to see how this paranoia against others affected his daily life, running relationships and friendships he's built over time as eventually his parents feel like they have no choice but to admit him into a mental hospital in hopes of him getting better.

After conituing to read this book I feel like im starting to understand the people around him better rather then understanding th emain character Caiden. I am able to see how his actions affect his realtionships and how he uses them to sink more into the world in his head. He is also constantly divided between the world in his mind of the captain, and the parrot and feels the need to go against both atuhroity while in real life he stuggles to be himself or feel like he is in his own body while he is in the hostiple.

I finshed this book and I overall think that this book is really good, and I would recommended it to others. Although it is some what confusing at first we slwoly start to enter caidens mind and be able to at the end be able to follow his jounrey on growing and be able to get passed his struggles.

My intial reaction to this book was how me feeling sorry for the main character as In the beginning few pages she is portrayed as a timid girl who is a follower and doesn't seem to have her own personality as she tends to fall behind others. I am interetested to see if she is able to overcome that

After reading this book for another week I have been able to get a deeper understanding of why she hides behind her friends and idolize them, I am informed about her realtionship with her sister and how much it got worse ever since her mom left and how she struggles to maintain a realtionship with her sister. I also read about her new friend which they connect over a class and become closer as they talk about their struggles together.
