Thirty years ago, Medicaid and SNAP largely served families that receive public assistance and were not working. In addition, the EITC was tiny: for a full-time, minimum-wage worker, the EITC only offset the employee share of his or her payroll taxes, and millions of low-wage families were taxed into, or deeper into, poverty

Im on my dads insurance until I am 27 but if it stopped when I was 18 then I would be in trouble. I have to get my heart checked every year to make sure that it's still working. This type of appointment cost over 1000 dollars. I also have to take certain medication to keep my blood pressure low, so my heart doesn't explode (literally). If I couldnt get free health care and my parents couldnt help me, I could die because I couldn't afford it.
