My fifth principal was my best principal, but not because she was such a fabulous leader... because she was a fabulous inspiration daily for me to be my absolute best. To give my all to my kiddos in a way that would also inspire them to be their best. To constantly seek out newer and better, more innovative ways to reach them. To understand them deeply, not just on the surface, and to respond to them in a way that showed that deep understanding. She did this by doing all of those things for her teachers each and every day. She modeled everything that she wanted us to do for our kiddos by doing those same things for and with us. She did this in all settings that she met us in, side-by-side as a collaborator, instead of a top-down nagger.

It was incredibly beautiful, and I grew to not only admire her, but love her dearly as a life-long friend. It is because of her leadership and mentoring that I am where I am today, and I tell her that as often as I can.

Mentoring through modeling is the best gift that can be given. Actions really DO speak louder than words.
