         <description><![CDATA[<div>This book really opened my eyes to how students might view themselves in the classroom. The main character had such a negative self-image, but her teacher was able to reach her in ways others hadn’t even attempted. A few things I took note on: </div><div>-Positive reinforcement of any kind can really go a long way. </div><div>-Those “problem” students may just really be distracting you from their underlying learning differences, problems at home, or other things with which they may be struggling. </div><div>-Kids are observant and usually have an idea when their peers are struggling with something. Be discreet about corrections you may be giving.</div><div>-Prompt students to use the statement “I am having trouble” instead of saying “I can’t.”</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Fish in a Tree was such an easy, but delightful read. The book came at the perfect time in the school year for me when I think all teachers need a little encouragement, and reminder of why we are in our profession. Mr. Daniels was an exemplary example of how we should approach and respond to students who are struggling academically or behaviorally in our classrooms. Since starting the book, I have strived to remind myself of the type of students in my classroom, the responsibility I have to create a safe environment, and the need to channel the inner Ally in my students. Besides the encouraging, upbeat feel of the story, I gained a new view of the world of students with dyslexia. As a newer first grade teacher, I am realizing my responsibility in helping notice dyslexia in my students, and aiding in getting them the help they need to feel successful for their entire schooling career. The book helped provide me a few red flags to notice in my students, and with eagerness to learn more on how to identify the disorder, and what strategies to use to help a child with dyslexia. Mr. Daniel’s most memorable approach was using all of a child’s senses to interact with letters and text. I will keep this strategy in mind for my own classroom, as this seems like an overall good teaching strategy for all young learners. In closing, I am thankful for having read this story of  “grit” and perseverance to help myself realize all impossible can become possible. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I really enjoyed reading Fish in a Tree.&nbsp; I was reminded about how much a teacher can change the life of a student.&nbsp; The way Mr. Daniels was able to slow down and really pay attention to Ally made a huge difference in her opening up to possibilities.&nbsp;<br>I loved how the friends supported each other. It did a very good job of providing a real world example of the struggles our children&nbsp;experience.  I would highly recommend this to all teachers no matter how short or long you have taught.  Everyone can gain insight.  </div>]]></description>
