What a great outlook to have on life and teaching. Unless you are a teacher, you will never completely understand how difficult (and rewarding!) it can be. I know not all my days are good - for many different reasons - but I also know if I think back hard enough, something good happens every day. It is hard to see this sometimes though. Many days we get so caught up in the "bad" - whether that be our lessons, kids, other teachers, events, etc. - that we forget to enjoy the good. I love this beautiful reminder.

I chose this quote for a few reasons. One - a coworkers father passed away. His outlook on life was that "Every day is a good day." I have my own play on that. I firmly believe that - no matter how rough your day is - you can find something good about it. It may be difficult to do, but if you can try to stay positive, your positivity will be contagious! I remind myself about this quote when I'm feeling like I had a "bad lesson" or didn't approach a situation with a child correctly. It helps you to feel better about yourself, because YOU'RE AWESOME! You teach. You matter.

Boy is that ever true. There are some days where everything seems to be conspiring against me, including my hair, keys, phone, wardrobe -- whatever. I walk into school and there may be issues to resolve there or an angry parent email to respond to. Yet there's always something, some small hurdle a student overcomes or a moment where a child smiles at you because they've learned something new, that makes it all worthwhile. I believe this is why I love teaching so much, because no where else in my life is the quote you posted more easily experienced! Thanks for the reminder! Lisa

This is definitely true in the teaching world. It seems like thousands of decisions are made each day by our students, which affect us and our moods specifically. Many decisions that are made are not ideal, but there really are tons of good examples of positive things happening. It might be as simple as, "Marky didn't wipe his nose on someone today." I know in my school, I can get caught up in trying to make my class behave perfectly. When things happen that aren't "perfect" in my eyes, it can lead to a very frustrating day. However, when (if) I take the time to reflect on my day, there are so many positives that make me happy. I need to seek these out way more than I am now.

I agree with this quote so much! There is a lot of truth in what is said.
Far too often we get weighed down by all of the bad things that happen in a day and we forget to thing of all of the good moments. This is a wonderful mantra to have. I think it is also a wonderful thing to teach our students....just because something goes wrong or seems bad doesn't mean something good can't come out of it. Very inspirational!

As teachers, friends, colleagues, or strangers passing on the street, we need to find the good in our day and be the person who shares the contagious positivity.

This is a fantastic quote to live by. It’s also a hard one to remember. I know that even with it only being the start of the school year, there are some students that I’m already worried about. I might even change this quote to say that you need to look for the good in every person, no matter how difficult that may seem to be. When it comes to writing, this is something that gives me hope. Even though every piece I write might be extremely difficult or even the tiniest bit painful and maybe even terrible, there is something that I can glean from that experience. I think this is something that I can even share with my students as helpful to their own writing goals and experiences. No matter how terrible you might think it is, someone else may find something wonderful in it. ry": 0.b#tz

What an excellent quote to start class with. It seems like I have been stressed on a daily basis lately and I have forgotten that there IS good in every day. The student that typically talks through class allowed students to test today without being loud. An ELL's reading level increased by over 100 lexiles since last spring. A student missed class this morning, but took the time and effort to find me at the end of the day for his missed work. Thanks for the reminder, Sabrina!

I couldn’t agree more with this quote. I personally have trouble seeing the good in a day sometimes. It is important to sit back and think about the positives that happen throughout a day, otherwise it is very easy to get caught up in the negative. This is my 3rd year of teaching and it did not take long from when I was hired to see what teachers think positively and see the good in every day and which teachers see every day as not good and can’t find any positives.

From a writing perspective I think can absolutely be applied to writing. It could be viewed as every writing piece. Every writing piece may not be good, but there is something good in every writing piece. It is important to reiterate that to students. Many students seem to struggle with seeing what is good with their writing and always view it as a poor piece of writing. It is our jobs as teachers to help them see the positive and grow as writers. ->

I love this quote. I can't say that I honestly follow it as much as I would like, but I try. One thing I do with my students is to ask them to tell me one good thing that happened at the end of each day. It seems to help some students feel like the day was not complete a waste. It also reinforces that everyone has different paradigms and that it is ok. In regards to writing, it is important to have students pick out a "glow" in their writing. When I conference with students, I make sure to discuss their "glow" because it builds confidence. When my students talk about their "glow" they are able to feel pride in their work, regardless of their actual ability level in writing.

This quote speaks to my life so specifically right now. I definitely have some challenging students in class this year, one diagnosed with disruptive behavior disorder. While I’ve been spending my days tearing my hair out trying to get him to do ANYTHING with us in the classroom, it’s easy to leave the school that day stressed out and hope dwindling. It’s always important to remember the 20-something other blessings in your class and the moments I share with them, as well as the small victories I make with my more difficult student. There really is something good in every day. After seeing this, I may actually begin to write down one good thing that happens each day to keep my viewpoint positive!!
