Promoting the student artist through the campus newspaper and radio stations that are apart of the different genres of hip hop to allow for other to experience the diversity in the genre and not just one type of rap. There is also a special thing that can happen on campus because many student on campus are not just from the DMV area so through inviting artist that have a more positive message as well as not just playing the same songs at events can cause a shift.

With the help of UGSA, Howard can host a Hip-Hop/ R&B concert that is completely student ran, and efficient for every artist performing. Since it will be a concert, there is ample space and opportunity for it to succeed annually, whether that was on The Yard, Crampton, or even Burr.

Eventually, The Warner Center can curate actual performances on campus with artists that are brought in to showcase accessibility to the industry.

To further exposure beyond campus, Howard can begin implementing inclusivity in the success of artists on campus. Often times, the idea of someone being a rapper isn’t represented in Howard’s promotion of success, but if they were given that platform, success could be inevitable.

Howard University can start pushing and promoting more student artists who rap and produce music. Continue having student artists perform at homecoming events, start hosting talent shows, and do random showcases in the punchout. It is reaching out to students to creatively illustrate any political stances, such as drawing caricatures or selling merch based on political or positive current events. Howard could also start publicizing more hip-hop conferences and making it a major hint hint.

-Howard could host and sponsored open mics. This will give students a way to share their voices. Rather than bringing an artist on campus to speak to them. Howard can bring forward the hip-hop minor and give students the opportunity to learn about hip hop in an academic setting.

-Howard can host hip-hop festivals. Showcasing different students and/or artists outside of the university. In the future Howard could create a hip hop museum or archive where people can go in and educate themselves on the history of hip hop and the genre as a whole.

-Howard students can start their pen record label called “Howard Records,” where these individuals would write a few songs as their thesis for the hip-hop minor. Their tasks would be to embody hip-ho’s original mission of empowerment, reflecting their community, and speaking about the future. Their songs will embody classic hip-hop as a preservative for the art and culture.

Howard can positively impact rap by supporting educated artists, who can bring originality and positivity back into hip hop. Howard has a club called the 360Collective who supports artists, both on and off campus, giving them a platform to collaborate, perform, and create. They support all genres and that variety can bring diversity into the culture. These artist can grow beyond Howard and bring spotlight to the community. Exposure of local artists builds the community and influences those artists to develop their sound before they become famous.
