Analysis - The word couture comes up many times in the book and it is used as a symbol of wealth in the book. With these "Crazy Rich Asians" shopping like crazy, from looks fresh off the runway to jewelry worth millions of dollars, couture is the highest mastery of fashion and design which is a piece of wearable art.

Analysis - Imperial is a concept that comes up often. The Young family is depicted as "old money" rich and they have been in Singapore since the British imperial era over Singapore. Which is partly why the concept of imperialism is mentioned many times throughout the book.
