“Shhh”, the sound of cool water running from golden taps that cost the bill of 100$. “Click clack, click clack” the sound of heels that cost the bill of 223$ on freshly mopped and polished floors. I was in one of the most fancy restaurants in all of Singapore, 5 stars! My stomach rumbling, my mouth drooling with the thought of food. We were celebrating my dad’s birthday! Everybody’s food smelled exceptional, what a feast! Though, my dad was not eating. His eyes were on the verge of crying. What was happening?! I needed to know more!

The big reveal

Before I could ask, my dad rushed into the bathroom. The hot soup still boiling alongside the sizzling bacon. What felt like an hour passed, what was he doing?! Finally, he came out of the bathroom. His stomach was empty. His mouth opened, “I need to tell you something”. My thoughts fizzled and wiggled all about! I was excited yet nervous of what he was going to say, he hadn’t talked for so long! But what came next was not what I was expecting. More dark, realistic, and dramalistic. My heart collapsed, and my appetite shattered. What I felt inside was sombre sadness.

The Dark Pit 

For days on end, I kept thinking, why couldn’t I have met my mami?

My emotions clogged my thoughts, my tears drowning me in sadness. I couldn’t think straight. At least I had learned more about my mami. 

Just like wise people in TV commercials said, where there’s a challenge there’s an opportunity. And I believed.

 My Final realisation

Now I have learned how to be more independent, a self-manager and that even if you find something challenging, it doesn't mean you can’t overcome it,

Because where there’s a challenge there’s always an opportunity.

And I now know that I can do anything I put my mind to. 

And that, you can only learn when you really challenge yourself. 

I now know that sitting on a couch all day isn’t going to make you a good person, only the ones who make an effort will overcome to reach their goal, and that’s what you call a risk taker.
