The theme of champion of the world is about a black person fighting to be a champion so he would demonstrate that black people aren't different from white people. The text says “Champion of the world. A Black boy. Some Black mother’s son. He was the strongest man in the world. People drank Coca-Colas like ambrosia and ate candy bars like Christmas. Some of the men went behind the Store and poured white lightning in their soft-drink bottles, and a few of the bigger boys followed them. Those who were not chased” ( Champion of the world ,Angelou)This means that this is how people used to react to a black person winning a boxing match , This shows the theme by people not experiencing how a black person won a boxing match.

I think the theme of the Champion of the World is that never give up and persevere. According to the text it says “That white man don’t mind hugging that n_____ now, I betcha”(Champion of the World). That text shows that even though people were looking down on Joe Luis and he still didnt give up.

Champion of the world by Maya Angelou, a reading that teleports you to the past and tells you… at least to me that the text is a reflection of what was happening at that and what is happening today, ( A Black boy. Some Black mother’s son. He was the strongest man in the world. People drank Coca-Colas like ambrosia and ate candy bars like Christmas. Some of the men went behind the Store and poured white lightning in their soft-drink bottles, and a few of the bigger boys followed them. Those who were not chased away came back blowing their breath in front of themselves like proud smokers. It would take an hour or more before the people would leave the Store and head for home.)”Angelou”. He was scared of losing
