This semester flew by really fast and was enjoyed aside from all the tedious and long nights i can say that for my reflection and personal evaluation over the semester i have grown as a writer, thinker, and communicator. With every minor and major assignment and writing process from brainstorming and drafting to feedback and peer review i have gained a understanding of rhetorical situations that have improved my ability to think critically.

In the following sections,i talk about some of the things i learned in class like cultural/society awareness, feedback and revision, research strategies, and audience awareness just to name some. This reflection is my way of showing the connections between what I’ve learned and how i applied that knowledge in meaningful.

One of the most impactful experiences this semester involved working with different approaches in my research projects. With visuals such as infographics and images helped emphasize believes. These visuals added to my arguments.

Culture, identity, and power were constant themes in my work I researched mostly on school uniforms. More specifically how they affect students differently depending on their race, gender, and economic status, i brought into my pieces experiences, beliefs, and biases sometimes not even knowing it or realizing it . Understanding this helped me write with more awareness and sensitivity.

For me the my writing process it usually went like this

Prewriting – choose a topic an start research

Drafting – writing first version and creating outlines

Revising – make big changes to improve ideas and structure with the help of peer reviews

Editing – going back to fix grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Finalizing – writing the final copy and turning it in

I learned how helpful it is to ask clarifying questions rather than just pointing out issues, showed me how powerful thoughtful feedback can be not just in improving writing, but in being a better writer.

The reading and research strategies i brought from high school helped me start strong but I quickly realized I needed more advanced tools for college level work since they sometimes can be longer and more complex.I learned how to dig deeper through academic databases and using my resources like the NEVADA STATE library and as well as apply CRAAP tests for source evaluation. These new strategies helped me analyze arguments more critically and find stronger evidence.

My biggest challenge was actually finding so much information that would take me into rabbit holes and would sometimes make me chose or pick the other side and id just become indecisive.

I learned how to use evidence more strategically. in my uniform essay, I didn’t just include statistics and quotes, I made sure each one had a purpose and was connected to my thesis and argument. I saw how formatting added professionalism and gave proper credit to sources.

A challenge I faced was integrating sources smoothly. Early drafts felt choppy like I was dropping quotes in without enough explanation. To fix this i introduced the source, included the quote, and then analyzed the meaning. This helped make my arguments flow better.

I learned in this course is the value of audience awareness. Whether writing a speech, a research essay, or a personal reflection, understanding who I’m writing for and why so i understnad how i will do everything from tone to structure. This awareness will help me in future.

For my Rogerian argument essay, my rhetorical situation involved me writing to educators, parents, and students about the impacts of school uniforms.

My purpose was to advocate for student rights and individual freedom in a moment when debates over equity in education are front and center. If i were to do it differently for example for school administrators instead, I wouldve focused more on financial or discipline concerns rather than emotional expression.
