Daft Punk is made up of two men, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. They asked Julian to write a song about when you meet a girl, but it is forbidden. It isn't about any specific relationship or woman. The speaker and songwriter of this piece is Julian Casablancas. https://www.thefamouspeople.com/profiles/julian-casablancas-4911.php

The subject of this song tells the story of a man who loved a woman, but their love was forbidden. It takes place in a museum. The people in the story that the song tells are wax figures. This represents how they had a love story back when they were alive. It then shows when they were separated because they were not allowed to be together anymore. The audience in this song is the woman that he fell in love with, but she didn't feel the same way. The purpose of this song is to remember everything that happened between them. The speaker is the man who loved the woman. He is telling the story from what he experienced. We can figure out that the girl did not feel the same way when listening to the lyrics. The tone of this song is relaxed, but it is also very sad because it is about a lost love. It takes place in a museum. I think the museum represents sadness, loneliness, and emptiness in the music video. The characters, man and woman, are placed in glass cased exhibits across from each other. They aren't together, but they are there.

Daft Punk uses pathos and ethos throughout his song. This text is effective in using pathos and ethos to convince the speakers lost lover that they were meant to be together. The video is a little confusing because it is based on a love triangle. The speaker of the song, Julian, represents the man who is talking to the woman. The dilemma is that this woman is dating his best friend, and that is a problem. That is probably just a representation of obstacles of love. This creates the sadness to the song because Julian cannot be with the woman.

When reading the lyrics that Julian sings, he chose lots of lyrics that represent his emotions. His very first lyrics "I didn't want to be the one to forget/ I thought of everything I'd never regret" shows that he is emotional about this topic, creating a desolate setting. He later says "I got this picture of us kissin' in my head/ And all I hear is the last thing that you said". This shows that he is so sad and regretful about the situation that he can't forget her even if he wants to. He cannot forget all the memories that he has with and of her. In another part of the song, he says "And we will never be alone again/ 'Cause it doesn't happen everyday". This shows that he has accepted that they won't be able to see each other a lot anymore. The line "And we will never be alone again" shows that even if it is just them together, loneliness and awkwardness will be there too. Later in the song, he says "One thousand lonely stars/ Hiding in the cold/ Take it, oh I don't wanna sing anymore". I think that the one thousand lonely starts represent how he feels, and that feeling is emptiness. I think that this is when he realizes that things are finally done between them.

The lyrics use pathos and ethos to get his message through to the woman who he loves. His main point is very clear. He truly loved the woman, but they just were not meant to be together. He misses the memories of her. He wants her to remember too even if it will never work out. Overall, Julian's message is effective through his music video and lyrics. I believe that this might just be the way for him to get closure.

Lyrics Analysis-Ethos

Although this song does not say who the people are in the song, we can guess that is it based off of something that happened in real life. The lyrics talk about real experiences that happened between the man and the woman. The first example is "I want to take you to that place near the rush/ But no one gives us any time anymore". Those lyrics are talking about a place where they use to go hangout, but they ran out of time and they can't go there anymore. He also says "He ask me once if I’d look in on his dog/ You made an offer for it, then you ran off". This proves that he was friends with the other man and he would still be there for him. It also shows that the woman committed to things, but she didn't follow up. This could apply to how she treats her relationships as well. Julian creates more pathos when he says "Kinda counted on you being a friend/ Kinda given up on giving away". This shows that he really wanted to keep her even if they were just friends, but after everything that has happened, he has finally decided to give up on the dreams that he had for them. Another example is when he says "I saw my memory that just never dies/ We worked too long and hard to give it no time". This shows how he keeps reminiscing his love for her. He probably has lots of regrets for working so hard and getting nothing in return.
