S: Yes I would want to spend time outdoors in nature.
P: To start, mankind has advanced technologically in the eons that have passed. This has brought sheer convenience in our lives, resulting in a modern lifestyle where we spend the majority of our days indoors and inactive. Inevitably, this negatively impacts our health. <del>But, </del>Thus, spending more time outdoors ensures that we remain healthy.

E: Research by the National health board of the USA proved that outdoor activities, such as a walk in the park, can improve cardiovascular health, thus reducing risk of obesity. Furthermore, it was found that it also prevents the progression of myopia and increased vitamin D levels. Additionally, these effects are not restrained to physicality, it also ranges to mental impacts. It has been shown to decrease feelings of tension, confusion, anger, and depression.

E: These myraid of postive impacts prove vital for my wellbeing. As the majority of my day is spent inactive and indoors, I often get insufficient levels of physical activity and lack vitamin D. However, with outdoor activities, i would be able to exercise and keep healthy, all while obtaining vitamin D. Furthermore, the demands of on a student could be detrimental to my well-being. As students, we have to <del>dual </del>juggle multiple commitments such as co-curricular activities and academic matters. As such, our days are often packed to the brim, and this consistent tedious and demanding rigour wears me down mentally over time. <del>Which</del> This results in feeling overwhelmed, tense or frustrated. Outdoor activities essentially serve as this "reset" button, allowing me to release these emotions while having fun.

L: Thus, since outdoor activities pose beneficial to my well-being i would like to spend time outdoors in nature.

P: Another reason why I would like to spend time in nature is because of my interest in flora and fauna and the benefits of embracing it.

S: Being surrounded by nature in Singapore gives us easy access to interactions with plants and animals that roam around, of which easily go unnoticed, owing to our hurried pace of life. Since we are surrounded by nature, the scurrying of little critters, hiding among the lush greenery, caught my eyes ever since I was young and cultivated a sense of curiosity towards living things. As a result, it motivated me to expose myself to nature more.

E: For example, I started spending time, taking walks in the park and going cycling with my friends as I found the native animals and plants beautiful.

Apart from gaining knowledge and insight of these unique beings, I also like to spend time in nature as it aids in soothing and distracting me from the stressful and tiring life of being a student. Additionally, spending time in nature also helped me to create better relationships with my community as studies have shown that surrounding oneself in a natural setting assists in cultivating feelings of empathy, love, and belonging.

E: Nature has given me a interest which I would never imagine that I would possess and also helped create bonds with people around me.

L: Therefore, since it gives me multiple benefits, I would love to spend time outdoors.

Response is well-devp and uses a wide range of well-chosen vocab and structures.

MX;

P: To start off, my views of spending time in nature is that it allows me to keep my mental and physical health in check.
E: In nature, we are surrounded by <del>many</del> lush greenery and luxuriant fresh air <del>greens, and breathing in fresh air. </del>
E: Studies have found that being in a greener atmosphere enhances creativity and leaves you more inspired.
E: Greenery has the power to help your brain generate new ideas. Green is the chosen color to reinvigorate the mind. E:Furthermore, seeing greenery instead of high skyrise buildings or congested roads, helps to keep our minds away from the busy and hustle-culture led life we are living in, allowing us to be at ease while spending time in nature. It is also scientifically proven that smelling fresh air helps with the aid of relaxation and comfort, due to the absence of unpleasant smells that are associated with urban living like pollution, exhaust, and garbage. Plus, smelling fresh air and reducing the intake of polluted air is not only beneficial for our mental growth but also maintaining healthy lungs.

P: In addition, you can also spend time exercising in nature, exercises like yoga, jogging or cardio. It helps us to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. As Anne Frank said ,"Nature brings solace in all troubles." Hence, spending time in nature gives us numerous benefits either mentally or physically, while giving us comfort at the same time.

Mun Xuan, this highlighted portion seems to be answering Q1 and not Q2.

Based on my observations and interactions with my friends or other teenagers, some of them share the same views as me on spending time in nature, while some of them do not.

Firstly, those who share the same view as me agreed that spending time in a nature is a form of retreat from the hectic lives we lead, as the effects of being in nature lets us stay away from and forget about the stress we face in our daily lives living in a city such as assignment deadlines, examinations or emotional burden. Nature lets us take a step back, slow down and recharge, improving our overall wellbeing and tackle the hit of life more readily.

Secondly, there exists <del>other group of friends and </del>other teens who do not share the same views as me on spending time in Nature. They have shared with me that as a result of packed schedules, deadlines and examinations, the lives of us teenagers these days are way to busy to even go out to spend time in nature. To add on, after being overwhelmed with the amount of work we have to do, it will cause us to feel drained out and not have the energy to get out of our house at all. Alternatively, this group of teenagers prefer to spend time at home sleeping, browsing through the internet, gaming online, texting or calling their friends. Besides that, they favour spending time in the city area such as shopping malls or other attractions in the city, than <del>to </del>spending time in nature. To them, this is Simply because there are much more interesting places to visit and things to do in the city. The city offers them a greater range of activities to do and see <del>than</del> as compared to nature. Some of my friends even mentioned that being in nature exposes them to the sweltering heat, blazing sun and blood thirsty mosquitoes, which they simply can not withstand. The sheltered and airconditioned facilities in the city are more enticing to them.

A quote to conclude would be, "Nature is pleased with simplicity", by Sir Isaac Newton. As time changes alongside the advancements in technology, teenagers of different eras undergo changes as well. I hope that teenagers in my era can appreciate spending time in nature as I do, before global warming and deforestation takes it away from us in the future, and notice the beauty in its simplicity and the wonders it enlightens us with.

Response is well developed and uses a wide range of large vocab; just some minor structure issues 8 marks

jy: My other friends and some teenagers may share the same view as me. They usually prefer spending time <del>at</del> in their own comfort of their homes and play online games or studying. In this era, many teenagers spend almost one-third of their time <del>for</del> on school everyday. Understandably, they will feel tired from school and would rather spend time at home rather than in nature. In addition, most teenagers find joy staying indoors to text their friends online on platforms like WhatsApp or post pictures on Instagram. As a tech-savvy generation, this <del>that</del> is our way of communicating with people. This behavior has labelled <del>made millennials call </del>teenagers the ‘strawberry generation’ as we are not used to hard work, in this case, this means npt enduring the sweltering weather and mosquito-infested parks and nature reserves to hang out with friends outdoors.

However, there are still some of my other friends and teenagers who love spending time in nature. In contrast to people finding joy online, they find joy in nature. Studies has shown that a minimum of 2 hours a week spent in nature, either at one time or over several visits, is needed to significantly increase your health and well being. As mentioned, teenagers spend a lot of their time in school and are stressed over due dates and examinations, hence these teenagers find it relaxing to spend time in nature to lower their stress levels from school.

Different teenagers have different ideas on how to spend their time, some believe that spending time at home will help them relax while some find joy in nature.

Jia yi's response is developed to a certain extent and is organised; vocab is too simple 6 marks

D: I feel that my friends and other teenagers are not keen on <del>willing to share views about</del> spending time in nature.
Firstly, during the holidays most teenagers usually stay at home to either play with their phones or read a book, and the thought of being surrounded by nature would not cross thier minds since they would want to kick back and relax in a comfortable environment during their holidays.

Denise, you have completely missed the Question! It's NOT about whether teenagers want to share their views on nature... It's about whether teenager share YOUR views on nature... so your view is about YOUR OPINION (like / dont like) spending time outdoors!

rarely going out of their houses which they would not go out to the nature and enjoy the views and would have nothing much to talk about nature.

Secondly, teenagers are mainly talking about the latest trend they see on the internet or their own life and the topic on nature is not something that a teenager would normally talk about, due not going to nature parks often, not having enough knowledge to talk about it, which is why i feel that teenagers would not want to share their views about nature.
On the other hand, I feel that there are some teenagers who would talk about natures as they frequently visits the parks or read up about nature, like understanding more about the ecosystem, the biodiversity or even admiring the landscape view. Like for example, going overseas to Japan, landscape of mount fuji is simply divine. The teenager would be able to communicate with their friends about what an amazing view it was and how spending time in nature was fun.
In conclusion, I feel that my friends and other teenagers are not willing to share views about spending time in nature.

faith :
I strongly believe that the conservation of natural environments is largely the government's responsibility .

Firstly , the government plays a critical role in protecting and preserving the environment . The government has the power to create laws and regulations to protect our nature , and enforce stricter rules to enhance our environmental standards , and to prevent our natural environment from declining . For example , in Singapore , the government has put in place certain regulations to ensure the preservation of natural environments . Those who cut a tree with a girth of more than 1m growing on vacant land without the approval of the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation can be fined up to S$50,000. Under the Parks and Trees Act, it is also an offence to cut, collect or displace any plants. Offenders can be fined up to S$5000. Thus , this shows that the government has the ability to enforce such laws to prevent our natural environments from deteriorating , and such laws being put in place can guarantee the conservation of our natural environments .

Secondly , the government has enough funds to support initiatives that work towards conserving the environment . For example , in Singapore , the SG Eco fund is open to the People, Private and Public sectors and aims to support ground-up projects that involve the community and advance environmental sustainability in Singapore. Not to mention , the 3R Fund is a co-funding scheme to encourage organisations to reduce waste disposed of at NEA's incineration plants and disposal facilities through the implementation of waste minimisation and recycling project. Thus , all these efforts and fundings available help to ensure the conservation of our natural environments , and the government should definitely continue playing a major part in making sure that our natural environments is preserved .

However, effective conservation also requires public participation and support. individuals also play a crucial role in conserving the natural environment. For example, individuals can conserve water, recycle, and support environmentally friendly businesses. Individuals can also use more sustainable transport . For example , taking public transport instead of cars to prevent more carbon emissions into the air , turning off the water tap when brushing our teeth and only turning it on when necessary . Furthermore , as individuals , we could use our reusable bags instead of plastic bags when shopping for our daily needs .

Ultimately, we all play a part in ensuring the preservation of our natural environment . It is the collective responsibility of governments, individuals, to work together to protect the environment for current and future generations. Undoubtedly , the government has more resources , power and ability to ensure that all these efforts are put in place well to conserve our natural environments .

Therefore , i strongly believe that the conservation of natural environments is largely the government's responsibility

Fantastic job, 9-10/10

These commitments can often lead to a very large amount of stress in us. Spending time outdoors in nature however, is a great way to remove that sense of pressure for a short period of time, and that is not the only thing good about nature, time outdoors also gives many other opportunities for us both physically and mentally.
Firstly, being outdoors enables me to be able to improve on my physical fitness. As I am not exactly considered very fit, This gives me an opportunity to exercise more and become healthier. After all, our physical health is very important, especially when we get older.</del>

P: Thirdly, being outdoors helps us in our mental well-being. <del>relax from all our worries.</del>
E: Studies show that spending time in nature <del>has been found to</del> help with mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.
E: As I commonly tend to suffer from anxiety attacks since young, this gives me a chance to be able to calm down and not be worried about things in the midst of nature / outdoors.
E: Being diagnosed with mild ADHD, it is very common for me to not be able to focus and stay in one place for too long. Getting a chance to be outdoors in nature gives me the opportunity to move around freely without restraint. According to research, incorporating physical movement and motor activity throughout the day increases successes in ADHD patients and nature does just that!. <del>rather than to be stuck in place and be doing assignment after assignment for a long period of time.</del>
All these factors prove that nature can have a positive effect on us, they help us to improve both mentally and physically. Therefore, whenever I am given the opportunity to spend time outside in nature, I will definitely take that opportunity to allow me to relax away from work.

Vocab was a bit too simple; organisation could've been better

Whenever possible, we would visit ____ park twice a week after school to refresh and rejuvenate ourselves <del>calm ourselves down</del> from our long and strenuous school days.

There was, however, one particular moment that stood out. As I recall, we were observing some sticks and wanted to have fun. So, we picked up the sticks and decided to have a stick fight like during our primary school days. I felt a rush of adrenaline during this moment, and we had the time of our lives. It not only strengthened our friendship but also made our day better and created a new memory that we could share and laugh about.

However, there's a friend of mine that hates anything related to nature. He feels that there's no reason land should be set aside for natural reserve and parks and would prefer if the land was used for commercial purposes say to build a shopping mall instead.
Similarly, I feel teenagers nowadays are distracted with the convenience of technology and leading a sedentary lifestyle being cooped up indoors.

too vague; idk what you're talking about --> <del>everything in their life</del> to appreciate nature and most don't enjoy it as much as the older generations. Still, there are many exceptions to this as secondary schools are trying to change this by having CCAs such as green club to foster a sense of love and responsibility towards nature which proves that there're still many teenagers that enjoy nature and appreciate it.

Overall, I feel most of my friends agree with my perspective on nature.

Set: I believe that the government plays a large role in the conservation of natural environment.

This is because they can make enact laws that prohibit actions that harm the environment. (P) Such actions such as deforestation and disposing of chemical waste into natural environment can be outlawed by the government. Having such laws in place would deter large companies / corporations <del>people </del>from harming the natural environment so the government should make these laws and use their authority to enforce it. Governments can also exercise their authority by issuing fines and penalties to companies that do not abide by the law. This would ensure that the wildlife and nature would be preserved.

Another reason is because the government can use their influence to encourage people to be more environmentally friendly. (P) The government can spread awareness about being environmentally friendly through mediums such as social media platforms. (E) (link between social media and becoming environmentally-friendly is unclear) By doing so, more people will be more environmentally friendly. This will help in the conservation of the natural environment since they lesser people will be harming the environment.

However, the people also do play a role in conserving the natural environment. This is because even with such laws in place, people can still choose to commit acts that would hurt the environment. Despite this, the government can prevent this by imposing harsher punishments to those that break these laws. The government can also deploy more enforcers of these laws to prevent anyone from committing such acts.

Therefore, I still believe that the government plays a large role in conservation of natural environment.

Set 7/10

Kay Brennan: I believe that the government plays a large role in the conservation of the natural environment.

Firstly, governments have the legal authority and power to regulate and enforce laws related to natural resource management and conservation. They can create and implement policies, regulations, and laws to protect and manage natural environments, including designating protected areas, establishing environmental standards, and setting conservation goals.

Secondly, governments have the resources and capacity to address large-scale environmental issues. They can allocate funding, personnel, and technical expertise to implement conservation measures, conduct research, and monitor and enforce environmental regulations.

However, it is also important to note that the conservation of natural environments is not solely the responsibility of the government. It requires collective efforts from various stakeholders, including local communities, indigenous peoples, Non-Government Organizations, businesses, and individuals. The government can play a crucial role in setting policies and regulations, providing resources, and creating an enabling environment for conservation efforts, but it should also work in partnership with other stakeholders to ensure a holistic and inclusive approach.

In conclusion, the conservation of natural environments is a complex and multifaceted issue, and while the government has a significant role to play, it is not solely responsible. It requires a collaborative effort from multiple stakeholders to protect and sustainably manage our natural resources for the benefit of current and future generations.

Brennan 8/10

Kendrick Khoo forgor💀

Stand: Yes I like to spend time outdoors in nature.

P: Firstly, spending time outdoors in nature calms me down and allows me to focus better on my daily tasks.

E: For example, one of my favourite nature places is the MacRitchie Reservoir. More often than not, I sit down on the benches there and take in the peaceful sight around me. I close my eyes and I would listen to the gentle nature sounds. According to research, nature sounds like birdsong and flowing water may alleviate stress, help lower blood pressure and lead to feelings of tranquility<del>.little sounds like the sound of the gentle water sloshing. Clearing my mind after a long week</del>. Thus, this leaves me feeling rejuvenated and my mind decluttered after spending time outdoors in nature.

E: When I was young I was diagnosed with ADHD. I had many difficulties focusing on daily tasks that my friends <del>around me</del> have no trouble with. Completing tasks were a constant battle <del>constantly a battle</del> for me. Whenever my ADHD gets the best of me <del>too much</del>, I leave my house for a jog or a walk in the park. Slowly but surely, my mind relaxes and I am able to get back to revising or finishing my homework.

L: Therefore, spending time outdoors is a coping mechanism for me. It can provide a natural and peaceful environment to manage my overall well being and manage my symptoms.

P: Secondly, I experience a lot of stress from time to time thus going out to nature has increased my feelings of calmness and lowers my stress levels.

E: For example, in school, the demand for homework has increased a lot recently. In addition to extra CCA activities, I had trouble finding a balance between work and play. Hence visiting the park is a helpful strategy for myself to relieve stress.

E: Going out in nature allows me to see beautiful sights that I could not see at home. Unlike home, nature is filled with flowers, trees, and wild birds. Seeing the beautiful colours of the flowers is very pleasing to my eyes and admiring the birds flying around makes me happy as the birds look so carefree and not trapped in a cage. This provides an opportunity for me to unwind from the hustle and bustle of my busy life.

L: Therefore, I like spending time outdoors as not only it helps relieve stress but also allows me to experience things I can’t experience at home.

Response is generally well-devp and organised.

HT: In these generation, many teenagers are dismissed as carefree, careless, and self-centered. They are Usually spending a lot of their time on <del>in </del>technology like games or social media.

I firmly believe the conservation of natural environments is largely the government's responsibility.

Firstly the government has <del>have</del> sufficient resources and manpower to make a lasting and effective change to conserve the environment. The government can enforce laws and offer incentives to <del>se the great resources it has to </del>create nature reserves and protected areas. <del>This can be seen</del> in Singapore,<del> where</del> the National Environment Agency (NEA) maintains nature reserves like Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. Furthermore, 4.48% of the land in Singapore has been allocated for these nature reserves.<del> Lastly, the government has the power to create various laws on preserving greenery</del>. For example, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), implemented the Clean Air Act, 1963. One of the things done was to set limits on how much harmful pollutants like carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide gas can be emitted by industrial facilities. These limits have helped to reduce air pollution and improve air quality in the United States, leading to better health outcomes for millions of people. As a result, people are able to breathe cleaner air and live healthier lives. Only the government has the power to enact such beneficial laws and that is another reason they should be responsible for preserving the environment.

Secondly the government cause use it legitimacy and status to push foreign nations to take action to preserve greenery. For example, Brazil has been discouraged from cutting down trees thanks to international effort. Although the amazon forest lies within Brazilian borders, the US and its allies has managed to slow down the deforestation rate in the country from 1000 to 650 trees a day, which is nearly half the amount.

<del>Lastly, the government has the power to create various laws on preserving greenery.

S: I like to spend more time outdoors in nature because it helps me to reduce stress.

Whenever I have time, I take brisk walks at the nearby park to clear my mind from my hectic schedule.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, more people stay cooped up at home and spend most of their time <del>facing</del> glued to their electronic devices. Going outdoors has become the last of our priorities. With the lack of physical activity, our stress levels are more likely to stay elevated. As a result, it takes a toll on our mental well-being. I noticed that I easily became lethargic, making it difficult to complete my work. Studies have shown that exercising can alleviate sleep-related problems and boost energy. By doing so, we can stay energized throughout the day and our mood will improve, allowing us to become more aware of our body and daily life.

By spending more time outdoors, we can feel more at ease. Be it admiring the sun setting, throwing in dusky purples and sweet peach-pinks into the sky, or listening to the whimsical sounds of nature. This can help take the weight off our shoulders and relax our minds.
All in all, the beauty of nature helps us to reduce unnecessary stress. It is our responsibility to care for our mental well-being and we should make time for outdoor activities be it by ourselves or to bond with our family and friends.
A thoughtful response which is generally well-developed and organised; a range of large and appropriate vocab and structures

Heidi:
P: My friends tend to share the same views as I do when it comes to spending time outdoors in nature .
<del>When it comes to my friends, we all strive to live healthier lifestyles, and tend t o share the same views when it comes to spending time outdoors,

E: W</del>e see it as a positive experience<del>, a time</del> that allows us to let loose from all our responsibilities back home and disengage from reality. When we are in the outdoors, we become one with nature as we take in the fresh air from the surroundings and embrace the scenery that is before our eyes. During the holidays, when we have the chance to go on outings with one another, we are in favour of <del>more toward</del>s going outdoors rather than the conventional shopping trips.

E: There are many occasions where we'd go trekking at McRitchie Reservoir for hours on end and out of those trips, we would find pleasure from it.

P: Moreover, <del>since we are all like-minded people and are bounded by similar interest</del>, we enjoy the times spent together with one another in an outdoor setting, rather <del>then </del>than being cooped up indoors using our phones.
E: We feel that outdoors in nature provides an avenue for us to interact with each other in a more natural and carefree setting, allowing for closer interactions as compared to when we are indoors, surrounded by people.
E: Breathing in fresh air also enables us to have a peace of mind, which provides the perfect tranquility and serenity we need amidst this tiresome year. Sometimes, living a life in a busy and bustling city can be exasperating, and<del> calling </del>interjecting some refreshing break <del>rest</del> in nature is the best way for both me and my friends to ecsape <del>separate ourselves</del> from our hectic lives.

Heidi: However, other teenagers may not feel the same way. Teenagers nowadays are <del>classified</del> perceived to be couch potatoes and tend to<del> sheer </del>shy /steer away from outdoor activities.
In my CCA, whenever we are tasked to do something out in the hot sun, I have observed that many of my juniors and former seniors would whine about the weather being too harsh and often finding excuses to excuse themselves from simple outdoor activities.
From this, I have realised that the vast majority of teenagers would much rather be indoors and probably would not share the same views as I do when it comes to spending time in nature.
Therefore, I conclude that with my friends, due to common interests, we would share similar views about spending time in nature whereas for other teenagers, they may not understand my views on nature.

A thoughtful response and largely appropriate vocab.

In my opinion, I believe that the conservation of natural environment is largely the government's responsibility.

This first paragraph is about government implementing LAWS. First of all, the government is the only one who has the legal means to enforce the conservation of natural environment effectively. It can do so by implementing laws to restrict people from entering protected areas so these areas can be conserved. Lack of elaboration, examples and explanation. <need to research what kind of laws or incentives are implemented in SG> <del>The government has already protected certain areas like the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve-</del>-> this part belongs to the next paragraph about having the financial resources

Secondly, the government has the resources to maintain the conservation of the natural environment. Unlike individuals, the government is able to allocate large sums of money for environmental conservation. This would allow the government to have the monetary capacity to hire workers to maintain and increase the diversity of the environment and to prevent outside harm such as loggers. The government can also hire strategist to plan sustainable ways to maintain the environment. The government has already protected certain areas like the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve....<Do some research: The 2019 opening of the Mandai Wildlife Bridge has also seen nearly 70 species of wildlife spotted using the eco-bridge, helping to maintain the biodiversity and to reduce roadkill in Singapore.>

<del>Lastly the responsibility of the natural environment of the country belongs to the government. Due to it using land that was once belong to Nature, we think the government should return the favor to nature by helping to take care of it. </del>This paragraph does NOT make sense at all; what favour? Nature belongs to the government??

However, NEVER EVER USE 1st PERSON PRONOUNS eg. I, we, me etc to avoid self-contradiction <del>we understand that it should not only be the government that should bear responsibility to maintain the environment.</del> However, some may beg to differ and argue that individuals make a huge difference. (P) If each citizen were to litter just once a day, Singapore would be generating 27000kg of waste that could harm our ecosystem. (E) <del>We individuals should not take our environment for granted and should also strive to protect the nature around us as to not put previous environmental efforts to waste. Why are you preaching or giving a lecture here?</del> This AGAINST paragraph is about individual effort is more important than government effort!

Conclusion: Missing?
