It seems wasteful or your time. This lets the student know that a more thoughtful answer is required. Now students will give the answer and the justification without any prompting.

You do need to keep the class going and engaged, but different tasks have different needs and you should provide the appropriate wait time for the task. The minimum wait time is at least 3 seconds, but the maximum is determined by the needs of the task or question.
