1. How do you improve information literacy in your own practice? I enjoy YouTube videos, and therefore I search them when I'm trying to find information regarding any number of subjects. For me personally at this time, I look for you tubes that are lecture based such as the TED postings. I find these informative as well as informative and useful in the medical profession. I also look to see if the lecture has a credible source as in particular physicians that I may be aware of doing a presentation, are they using a PowerPoint presentation as well as doing the lecture. I find that using the PowerPoint presentation during these YouTube lectures are extremely helpful to me. I also check to see if it's a sponsored site. If it is a sponsored site, then I will generally check the source or sources for that site. If for some reason it is a site that I'm not familiar with I will go online check and try to validate the sponsors. What I'm most concerned about when watching YouTube videos are the number of advertisements that are now prominent in almost every YouTube presentation whether or not it is related to the subject matter.

I find that I dislike dishonesty in advertisement in the way it's used on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Also, in looking at any advertisements on on Facebook YouTube or Twitter, it seems that they track your electronic footprint and will continue to bombard you with the same advertisement over and over. There is no confidentiality, in social media. That being said one can still learn a great deal from the blogs and online pages especially for those who are looking for others diagnosed with a similar disease process, or even to the type of nursing care that you provide. These sites can be extremely helpful in providing information that will increase or improve your nursing practice.
2. Do you feel social media influences health practices and choices? I feel that social media has increased influence in our nursing practice. I do not believe that it has yet to reach its pinnacle. There appears to be an emergence of information that could significantly impact the way consumers perceive their health care and those providing that care. These come in the form of surveys and requested demographics attached. As consumers becomes more comfortable with having access to their healthcare and using it for directing their own care, the data base will begin to swell in a meaningful way to help direct care for the consumer over many different demographic domains. The people that could disenfranchised would be the elderly, pediatric population, low income and areas where broad bandwidth computer is limited. This could mean portions of populations in industrial counties and third world populations, that are not close to industrialized cities.
References:
Sewell, J.& Thede, L.

Q.1 Improving the Information Literacy
Kretzer (2017) documents that the element of information literacy calls for the capability of handling the information technology in a professional way. Accordingly, it is important to adjust it to one’s practice. However, in my practice, I will undertake the component of information literacy through utilizing my knowledge. In the areas that will be challenging, I will enquire from the experts as well as research the essential techniques from the articles that relate to information literacy. I will do aggressive studies on the internet and watch the process online. I will pay attention to how the information is handled, and I will gain the required skills.

Q.2 Influence of Social Media on the Health Practice and Choices

Am convinced that media affects the health practices and decisions. This component is evidenced by the fact that what is posted in the social media is observed by a huge group of people (Kretzer, 2017). For instance, people may share their experiences on the Facebook, and those interested can refer to the information posted. The experts can also advertise their health professionalism on the social media, and this element can influence the practices of health practices. The medication officer who comes across that post compares his or her practices to those of the specialists and modifies the weaknesses given the therapeutic professionals.

Q.3 The Meaning of BYOD and the Feelings Thereof

BYOD is a short form of ‘Bring your own Device’. It is a course of action that allows the staffs to take along their personal devices to the place of work. These devices are mainly smartphone, tablet, and laptops. The phenomenon is usually regarded as ‘consumerization’ and gives the workers a right to use the information of the institution (Tunney, Wilson, & In Calabro, 2017). The feeling that I have about this concept is founded on the point that BYOD may fall into the wrong hands of the employees who may disclose the confidential information of the institution. Therefore, it is not necessarily to permit the employees to bring their own devices to the hospital.

References

Kretzer, M.
