About Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in Anchiano, Italy. At the age of 67 he died on May 2, 1519 in Cloux, France.

Childhood

Da Vinci grew up in his father's home where he had many privileges including a good education and academic texts that his close family and friends owned. He was also exposed very young to his father’s long going painting tradition and by the time he was 15 his father hired him to work at his shop of Andrea del Verrochio in Florence, Italy.

Many try to say that it is a portrait of Da Vinci as a woman and that Da Vinci used his own facial features to create a feminine version of himself. But other theories suggest that The Mona Lisa is a portrait of Da Vinci's wife, Francesco del Giocondo.

Leonardo is best known for his paintings, especially his Last Supper that was created in 1495, it took 3 years to finish. Da Vinci’s inspiration for The Last Supper was trying to capture every Apostle’s facial expressions and he was trying to capture the moment right before Jesus knew Judas betrayed him.

Da Vinci contributed to the Renaissance by showing people that it is possible to use the scientific method in everyday things, like music and art. He is mostly known for his famous artwork like the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper because of their expressiveness and dramatics, but Leonardo also led many detailed experiments that were thought out for months and made inventions that at the time, was extremely innovative. He had extravagant strengths academically which helped him make important scientific discoveries, but in the end, he never ended up publishing any of his ideas.

Leonardo Da vinci was an inventor before his art legacy. He created many useful inventions that people still use to this day. One very important invention that was made is the parachute. Although this was before the modern parachute was created, Da Vinci created a pyramid-shaped tent-like object that would slow the fall of a heavy object when falling from the sky. He also created the diving suit, which are the heavy and thick bodysuits people use when they dive underwater for long periods of time. Da vinci created this for sneak attacks on enemy ships underwater.
