I got my inspiration from craftyartideas.com as well as a ornamental design that I saw on my Latvian grandmothers ethnic made pottery.

Brush stroke practice!

This was fun to do. It really did help me understand the way my brush works and by the time I painted my 5th heart I was pretty confident. Then I wanted to challenge myself and make the little doodles I do normally with pen and paper. I tried stars, a planet, and attempted to make bird wings but more in a simple manner.

The band designs were really fun as well. I took some of the shapes I practiced with the brush strokes page and added them into some band design ideas. I’ve been really inspired by the stars and the sun as well as nature like flowers and life. As you can see, the four on the right side of the page were my experiments with shapes, lines, and curves. That last one on the bottom remind me of a ribbon for a dress or bow tie.

Once again, stars and the sun. The design on the left is actually something I’ve been doodling a lot in my notebooks and pieces of scrap paper. So far, this design is my favorite. I also attempted a moon design to contrast with my sun design. I tried to give it the “Starry Night” treatment but I think the watercolors just done quite work the same way acrylic do. Definitely gonna look at some Van Goh stuff later.

This was one of the first designs I tried to make of the Sun. It’s interesting to compare it with the one I did with water color.
