A thermocouple measures very high temperatures in places where people cannot go. It is made up of 2 wires each of a different metal, that are coupled at one end. When the metals touch a small electrical current is created. The level of electricity is based on how high the temperature is where the thermocouple is. By how much electricity flows through the meter, people know just how hot the temperature is.

-Cassidy
