These days, South Korea is becoming an aging society as the average life expectancy increases. As the number of elderly people grows, there is also a greater burden on healthcare and welfare systems. Older people often face problems like muscle weakness, joint pain, and difficulty moving, which can make daily life harder.

One way to help solve these problems is through the work of a rehabilitation trainer. A rehabilitation trainer is not just someone who teaches exercise, but a specialist who provides the right kind of training for each person. For example, for elderly people with back or knee pain, the trainer gives them safe and effective exercises to help reduce pain and build strength. This also helps prevent accidents like falling.

In addition to physical help, rehabilitation trainers also give emotional support. By spending time with the elderly and talking with them, they help reduce feelings of loneliness and prevent depression. In this way, a rehabilitation trainer plays an important role in improving the quality of life for older adults.

As our society continues to age, the role of rehabilitation trainers will become even more important. They focus not only on treatment but also on prevention and recovery, making them a key part of the healthcare system. Because of this, I became more interested in this field and want to learn more as I prepare for my future career.

김지완

ageism is unfair treatment of people based on their age, and it affects both older and younger individuals. In many cases, older people are seen as weak or unable to learn, while younger people are viewed as too inexperienced. These stereotypes limit job opportunities and create barriers in daily life.Ageism also hurts mental health. when people are treated as less valuable because of their age, they may feel lonely, lose confidence, or avoid social activities. this can lead to depression or even physical health problems.finally, ageism divides society. Instead of learning from each other, generations become separated. To create a fair and respectful world, we must stop judging people by age and focus on their abilities and character.

In our daily lives, people are often judged by their age. One big problem is ageism, which means discriminating against people because of their age, especially older people. This kind of thinking is not just about having stereotypes, but it also affects real life — like getting a job, receiving proper medical care, or being respected in society.

Even though our society is aging quickly, many older people still face unfair treatment. Some people think older people are not useful anymore. Because of that, many seniors have a hard time getting new jobs, and some are not given enough explanation or care at hospitals. Sometimes, their opinions are ignored, even by their own family members.

As a high school student, I feel sad when I see this. I believe that age should not decide a person’s value. Older people have lived longer and have more experience. They are full of wisdom, and we can learn a lot from them. We should respect them, not ignore them.

To solve the problem of ageism, we first need to change our way of thinking. At school, we can learn about this issue through class discussions, debates, or writing activities. Also, we can try activities where young people and older people work together, like volunteering, interviews, or mentoring programs. These can help us understand each other better.

In society, there should also be rules and support systems to make sure older people are treated fairly. It’s not just about giving them more benefits, but also about helping them stay active in the community and feel included.

Age is just a number. One day, all of us will grow old too. If we think about how we want to be treated in the future, we will realize that building a society without ageism is something we should all care about. I believe a society where people of all ages are respected is a better place for everyone.

Ageism refers to the attitude of judging or limiting someone’s ability, personality, or role based solely on their age.Personally, I think ageism is something that naturally arises in society. This is because people have a tendency to instinctively assume a person's ability or experience based on their age.

Traditionally, societies have assigned roles and responsibilities according to age, and such customs have influenced many areas of life—including education, the workplace, and family.

For example, phrases like “Ugh, that dinosaur is at it again” or “What would a young person know?” reflect the stereotypes people often associate with age. However, I also think that ageism is something we must work to reduce.

It often leads to ignoring the diversity and potential of individuals. Some older people may be highly skilled in technology, while some younger individuals may have very mature judgment. When we judge people solely by age, we limit their opportunities and create unnecessary discrimination and conflict.

In particular, ageism in employment and social welfare can deepen existing inequalities.

Therefore, while ageism may be deeply rooted and seem natural in our society, that does not mean it is acceptable. We should learn to evaluate and respect others based on their abilities and character, not their age.

Building a society where different generations understand and cooperate with one another is, I believe, an important goal we must pursue.

dinosaur 는 꼰대를 뜻함!

I believe that discriminating against someone solely because of their age is not only unfair, but also severely limits both personal development and the overall potential of society. That’s why I strongly believe we should aim for a society free from ageism. What we should truly evaluate in a person is not their age, but their individual abilities, experiences, attitude, and passion. It’s clear that each generation has its unique strengths. Younger people may excel in new technology, adaptability, and creative thinking, while middle-aged and older adults have valuable experience, deeper insight, and patience. I believe that when different generations come together and their strengths are combined, our society can become healthier and more innovative. In a society where ageism is rampant, these opportunities for collaboration are blocked, which in turn hinders the progress of society as a whole. Furthermore, ageism is not just about inequality; it can also deeply wound the self-esteem and identity of those who are discriminated against. If such discrimination continues, it weakens both trust and a sense of belonging among members of society. Whenever I witness or experience ageism, I feel clearly that such discrimination can never be justified and ultimately harms us all. Personally, to reduce ageism, I believe that before institutional changes, each of us must first try to let go of our own preconceptions about age. For example, during meetings or collaborations, I try to focus on a person's potential and experience, rather than judge them by their age. I also believe it is essential to ensure everyone has a fair opportunity to take on new challenges, regardless of age. To truly eliminate ageism, legal and institutional measures are important, but it is even more crucial for each individual to change their own attitudes. I believe that real change begins when we respect each other’s experiences and try to understand one another more deeply through open conversations between generations. Ultimately, I am convinced that breaking away from ageism and building a society where people of all ages respect and fairly evaluate each other is the very first step towards the growth and happiness of all. I want to emphasize again that such a society can only be achieved through the changed attitudes and actions of each and every one of us.

2-5 15 이윤우

Problems

Ageism refers to prejudice or discrimination based on a person’s age and is deeply embedded in many aspects of society. Common stereotypes such as “older people are slow and incapable” or “young people are irresponsible” exist regardless of individuals’ true abilities or personalities. This leads to judgments based solely on age. Furthermore, institutional discrimination occurs through age-based hiring restrictions, promotion barriers, and limited educational opportunities. These issues contribute to a breakdown in communication and increased conflict between generations.

Impacts

Ageism negatively affects both individuals and society as a whole. On a personal level, those who face discrimination often experience lowered self-esteem, depression, and social isolation. Older adults, in particular, may suffer worsened mental and physical health due to exclusion, while young people may have their talents overlooked and their voices ignored, limiting their growth opportunities. At the societal level, ageism deepens generational divides and prevents the valuable experience of older adults and the fresh ideas of younger generations from being fully utilized. Ultimately, this weakens social diversity and inclusion, hindering sustainable development.

Solutions

Addressing ageism requires changes at the individual, social, and institutional levels. Individuals should reflect on and challenge their own age-related stereotypes and practice respect and open communication across generations. Socially, intergenerational exchanges should be promoted through programs like mentoring and community activities that include all age groups. The media should avoid negative portrayals of any age group and present balanced, realistic images of people at every stage of life. Institutionally, laws prohibiting age discrimination need to be strengthened, and lifelong learning and re-skilling opportunities should be expanded to allow people of all ages to participate fully in education and the workforce. Additionally, policy-making processes should ensure representation from diverse age groups to build a society where everyone is respected.

For example, I thought older teachers wouldn’t know how to use smart devices, or I dismissed my younger sibling’s opinions, thinking they were too young. Ageism isn’t just a social problem; it exists in our daily lives.

I think ageism is serious because it limits people’s potential. If older people are excluded, their experience and wisdom are lost. If young people are dismissed, their fresh ideas are ignored. Ageism harms everyone.

From now on, I want to judge people by their thoughts, efforts, and abilities, not their age.

2-5 17 이호준

Discrimination against the elderly is one of the important social problems facing an aging society. It is occurring in many areas such as healthcare, employment, and housing.

To solve this problem, a multi-faceted approach such as laws and institutions, improvement of awareness, and communication between generations is needed.

Above all, it is urgent to prepare legal and institutional arrangements.

Discrimination against the elderly should be clearly prohibited, and a legal basis for practical punishment and relief should be established if they violate it.

Through this, it is possible to legally protect the rights of the elderly and create an institutionally feasible environment.

Second, it is essential to improve social awareness.

People unconsciously regard the elderly as being behind the times and have negative prejudices.

A lot of effort must be made to change this. There is a need to provide education that enhances intergenerational understanding in schools and communities, and to promote the positive role and good image of the elderly through media and public campaigns.

Third, it is important to activate intergenerational exchanges.

Opportunities to communicate and cooperate with each other should be increased through volunteering, cultural activities, and generational integration programs for youth and the elderly to participate together.

This helps to improve intergenerational understanding and respect.

Fourth, the elderly's participation in society is necessary.

For example, opportunities should be guaranteed so that the elderly can reflect their experiences and opinions in various fields such as policy-making processes, community activities, and job participation. It is effective not only to increase the self-esteem of the elderly but also to prevent social isolation.

Finally, strengthening the system for protecting the human rights of the elderly is also required.

Strengthen the system for preventing and responding to elder abuse, which is a social problem, and provide integrated support services such as law, psychology, and welfare so that the elderly can maintain a safe and dignified life.

In this way, with the efforts of all of our society, we will be able to move forward to a healthy aging society without discrimination against the elderly.

Ageism against older people remains a serious obstacle in today’s aging societies. It doesn’t just limit their job opportunities it often keeps them from feeling fully connected to their communities and the world around them. To truly tackle this issue, we need creative, practical solutions that go beyond laws and basic awareness campaigns.

One effective step is to redesign our cities to be more age-friendly.

When sidewalks are safe, public transport is convenient, and buildings are barrier-free, older adults can stay active and independent for longer. It’s not just about comfort it’s about freedom.

Another important piece of the puzzle is lifelong learning.

Older people shouldn’t feel left behind just because technology or industries change. Local governments and communities should offer accessible classes and training, so seniors can pick up new skills, discover hobbies, or even start second careers.

Companies, too, can play a huge role.

Instead of seeing older workers as a burden, businesses could be rewarded for creating flexible jobs, mentoring programs, or retraining options. This way, experience and fresh ideas can meet in the same workplace.

Of course, staying connected is just as vital.

Many older people suffer from loneliness. Neighborhood clubs or hobby groups where seniors meet, share stories, and support one another can make a big difference to their mental and emotional health.

Living together can help bridge generations as well.

Imagine more shared housing where young people and seniors live side by side, learning from each other daily. These setups can build real understanding that no lecture or campaign could replace.

Lastly, digital skills can’t be ignored.

Online services are now part of everyday life, but many older people feel lost or left out. Communities need to offer friendly, practical digital training and simple tech support, so no one is excluded by a screen.

When cities, schools, companies, and communities all take small, realistic steps like these, age can become a link not a wall. A society that values every generation is a society ready for a truly healthy future.

Ageism means unfair treatment or discrimination against someone because of their age. It includes negative beliefs and actions toward both older and younger people. It happens when people think old people are weak or young people are immature. It can limit people’s chances to learn, work, or join social activities. I think that ageism is bad and cancerous in our society. It can hurt people’s feelings and stop them from showing their true abilities. In our society, people of different ages can work together and share various ideas. If we do ageism, many people may lose opportunities, such as education and work just because of their age. It is important to respect everyone’s potential, no matter how old they are.

In conclusion, I think ageism is not “nothing” but a real problem that should be solved. We should try to build a society where people are valued for their efforts and skills, not just their age.

20502 김동하

Ageism, or treating someone unfairly just because of their age, is a serious problem in today’s world. Whether someone is old or young, no one deserves to be judged based only on how old they are. I believe that ageism stops people from showing what they’re really capable of, and that hurts not just individuals, but society as a whole.

Many people think older people can’t learn new things or that they’re too slow to keep up, but that’s not always true. In fact, older adults have a lot of experience and wisdom that can help younger generations. On the other hand, some adults believe that teenagers are too young to have good ideas or make decisions. This kind of thinking makes young people feel like their voices don’t matter.

Because of ageism, some people get pushed out of jobs or are not even given a chance to try. It can also make people feel useless or discouraged, which leads to less confidence and motivation. If we keep letting these age-based stereotypes continue, we miss out on the unique talents that every age group has to offer.

To fight ageism, we need to start by changing our own thinking. We should try to listen to people of all ages and see them as individuals, not just based on their age. Also, schools, workplaces, and governments should create rules and programs that make sure everyone has equal chances to learn, work, and participate in society—no matter how old they are.

In conclusion, I think ageism is not just unfair, but also harmful. If we learn to respect people for their abilities and not their age, we can create a better, more inclusive world for everyone.

20511 신범기

Ageism, defined as discrimination and prejudice based on age, can negatively impact an individual's well-being and mental health. While older age often signifies the accumulation of rich experience and knowledge, it can simultaneously become a starting point for prejudice, preventing an accurate assessment of an individual's capabilities.

Particularly in countries like South Korea and Japan, which are experiencing severe population aging, ageism transcends issues of increased welfare costs or decreased productivity. It can lead to the serious situation where capable individuals are deprived of opportunities to contribute to national growth.

Overcoming such ageism requires multi-faceted efforts. It is crucial to raise awareness about the problems of ageism through media education and to promote intergenerational exchange, creating more opportunities for different generations to communicate actively.

20505김유빈

My Opinion on Ageism

In many situations, people are judged by their age before others look at their true abilities or personalities. I think this is unfair and dangerous. Older people are often seen as too old to try new things, while younger people are told that they are too young to have good ideas. But these are just harmful stereotypes.

I believe every person should be treated based on their actions, skills, and character—not by how old they are. Many young people are creative, hardworking, and full of new energy. At the same time, many older people are wise, experienced, and capable of giving valuable advice. If we ignore someone’s opinion just because of their age, we might miss out on important thoughts or solutions.

Ageism can also hurt people’s confidence. When people hear again and again that they are too young or too old, they may start to believe it and stop trying. This can stop them from reaching their full potential. That’s why it is important to support people of all ages and give everyone a chance to grow and contribute.

In my opinion, society will be better if we focus on what people can do, not how old they are. We should listen more, respect more, and remember that everyone has something to offer. Ending ageism is not just about being kind—it’s about being fair and smart.

20518 조경범

I believe that ageism is becoming a bigger problem in today’s society. These days, the conflict between generations is getting more serious. I think this is mainly because people from different age groups have grown up in very different times and environments. As a result, they often don’t understand each other well.

Older people sometimes say that young people are lazy or careless, while young people think that older generations are too strict or old-fashioned. These ideas are not always true, but they come from misunderstandings and a lack of communication. Each generation has its own experiences, values, and ways of thinking. So, it is natural that they see the world differently.

However, judging someone just by their age is unfair and unwise. Young people can be creative, passionate, and open to new ideas. Older people have valuable experience, knowledge, and advice to share. If we ignore someone’s thoughts only because of their age, we lose the chance to learn from them.

To solve this problem, I think we need more conversations between generations. For example, schools, communities, or families can create more chances for young and older people to talk and work together. By sharing ideas and listening to each other, they can understand different opinions and grow together.

In conclusion, we should not let age decide how we treat someone. Instead, we should respect people for who they are and what they do. Ending ageism will help create a fairer and more united society

20510배정연

Modern society is made up of many generations living together. However, it is not always easy for people from different age groups to get along, especially when they have grown up in completely different times. Misunderstandings and stereotypes often create distance between them.

Age-based assumptions are still common in many areas of life. Young people are sometimes dismissed as inexperienced or immature, while older individuals may be unfairly labeled as unwilling to change. These views ignore the unique strengths that each person can bring, regardless of their age.

Instead of judging people by their generation, we should focus on their abilities, ideas, and attitudes. Age does not determine someone's value or potential. What truly matters is a person's willingness to learn, contribute, and connect with others.

True understanding between generations starts with listening. When people take time to share their stories and viewpoints, they build empathy and mutual respect. Opportunities for collaboration and dialogue—whether in schools, workplaces, or local communities—can help break down the invisible walls that age sometimes creates.

A fair and inclusive society should welcome everyone, from the very young to the very old. Every person deserves to be heard and respected, no matter how old they are. By replacing age-based bias with curiosity and cooperation, we can build a culture where generations support and inspire one another.
