ROSSELEN. America reacted to Roosevelt in many different ways, due to the change during the 1930s. Many people were depressed, frustrated, and angry due to the Great Depression putting many to disadvantages. When Roosevelt became president, he gave the people hope for economy recovery and to bring out America out of depression. But for the people Roosevelt didn't do such a great job solving these problems.

The 1930s was a time of immense change for the American people. Franklin Delano Roosevelt brought much of this change through his New Deal. The people of America were just coming out of a traumatic depression in the majority lost most of their money. The change brought by Roosevelt was through an abundance of agencies which some thought helped very well and some thought it did not go far enough. One cannot argue that the change brought began many important things today such as FDIC which ensures security for bank depositors. It also made deficit spending a norm as well as brought social security which is very important to many Americans lives. The two main schools of thought of the change was that the conservatives say the government is now too large and too powerful and the liberals believed that FDR truly gave the country the help it needed.

Critics differentiated on how well or how poorly FDR did with his New Deal. Conservatives thought that the government was interfering with free market economy. Liberals thought that FDR's programs did not do enough. FDR started, what is now the normal, of deficit spending. The radio changed how people obtained the news or were entertained.90% of Americans owned a radio. FDR had "fire side chats" and it kept Americans aware of government efforts to fixing the depression problems.

America reacted to Roosevelt by judging his actions of doing too much. He kept interfering with rural problems even though that was the states' job. Some reacted to his ability to use the radio, a great source of media during the time. Some saw that he wasn't doing enough. Others saw that he was doing too much. The supreme court saw his actions as unconstitutional. In response to this he tried to increase the supreme court members to 15, he would recruit members who were in his favor.

People were confused why some of these problems were even happening, thus new ideas were created to try and solve these problems. The new deal was a group of federal programs, public work projects, financial reforms and regulations to try and help these problems. Major problems such as unemployment and bank failure were widespread. Americans wanted someone to blame and welcomed change, however there were many critics of what Roosevelt tried to accomplish.

Roosevelt brought many changes during the 1930's at the end of the Great Depression. Although he had many supporters there were also critics that were strongly against him. On the left the liberals thought that he hadn't done enough, and on the right the conservatives thought that his actions were socialism in disguise. One critic named Father Charles E. Coughlin supported him at first, but after he refused to nationalize the banking system he turned against him and discussed his opinions on the radio.
