Teaching a class with technology, students need to be aware of cyber bullying. It can happen in many different ways. Example, harassment, cyber stalking, dissing, trolling, and flaming. These are all types of bullying that are occurring with todays generation.

Prevent Cyber Bullying

In my class we use technology almost every day. Some ways that I teach my students to recognize cyber bullying is that I give them strategies to respond because most bullying is done in front of friends and peers. Also, I teach them to let their parents monitor their online activity. Parents can block certain websites like youtube, tiktok, facebook, snapchat, and ect. The biggest I teach is emphasize positivity. Using staff and parent meetings and using the school website to create a platform, allows bullies and victims to be aware of what is going on online. As a teacher, when using technology in the classroom does a 5 minute lecture or presentation of cyber bullying help prevent any upcoming situations?

I am not a teacher yet, but I have mixed thoughts on cyber bullying classes. I think that it is very important for children to learn what cyber bullying is so that they can identify it when they see it and hopefully not perform it. But I also understand that just because children are told something, that does not mean that they will listen. I believe that there is a balance between ensuring that the students are educated on cyber bullying and providing them with refresher training.

I believe that teaching cyber bullying prevention will help students in any upcoming situations. This will helps students to seek for help whether it is a family member, a friend, or teacher. There can be so much hate today in all types of social media and we need to prevent that. We need to spread positivity and happiness in the world.

By speaking on the subject at all you are probably already helping some students who feel threatened by cyber bullying. However, kids are mean sometimes, and I dont think that this prevents it, but it gives you an opportunity to at least put it in their minds that it's wrong. Realistically some kids are still going to do it, but if you saved one kid from being cyber bullied that is better than nothing.

I believe that one lecture or presentation will not change much when it comes to online harassment and bullying. It is up to us as teachers to remind our students often to choose to be kind to one another. Learning takes repetition. If cyber-bullying becomes a serious issue in the classroom, removing access to the platform it is occurring on at school may help.

I agree that presentations on cyber bullying brings awareness to the subject but doesn't change students behaviors at all. I feel teachers and parents need to step in and have more personal conversations with students. When you are listening someone talk about it, it can just breeze over students heads. But I feel by showing them their are true consequences and having true conversations with students, it will help decrease cyber bullying.
