The second step to a risk assessment will be to decide who may be harmed and how they may be harmed.
This will mean to identify everybody's individual needs and difference for example there may be elderly people, pregnant women, children, people that have never visited before and are unaware of their surroundings

The third step will to evaluate the risks and to figure out what to do about them. This will mean to once, you find the risk take the steps needed to stop it from being a risk for example, is the windows open really wide and someone may be able to fall/jump out of them you will need to put safety locks on them so they only open a certain amount.

The fourth step will be to record you risk assessment, to record the risk assesment you will need to write down what the risk is, what you are doing to prevent it and what, if any, further actions are.

The fifth step to your risk assessment will be to update and review. You need to update in case their is anymore risks to be recorded or if there is any changes to current risks, this is because the work place is changing constantly with new employees, new equipment etc.

The health and safety officer's job is to check work places are safe and have to risk to health. They also advise workers and employers on how to decrease risks in their work place.
For example in a care home environment the health and safety officers will assess the residents, the staff and the environment for risks. They will then report the risks to the staff and tell them how to improve, this is important in a health and social care environment because it will keep the service users safe, and the service users may be vulnerable making it even more important to reduce the risks around them.
The health and safety officer will also ensure that all PPE is provided. In a health and social care setting this will include things like, aprons and gloves for nursery schools changing nappies, and for care homes helping the elderly go to the toilet etc, it will also include thermometers for food, to ensure all the food is cooked properly.

Risk assessments should contain a 'level of risk' this is because you can then know exactly how dangerous the risk is and how likely it is to happen.
This is calculated by choosing the level of likeliness from 1 being not likely to 5 being very likely. You then choose the level of severity 1 being a graze or a cut and 5 being potentially death. Then you use these number to work out the level of risk by multiplying them by each other.
For example if during the tea dance someone was to spill their tea this would be a risk.
The level of likeliness would be a 4 (75% chance)
The level of severity could be a 3 (may cause a broken bone, will take a few weeks to heal.)
This means that the level of risk will be 12.

Risk assessment will for something need to be reviewed regularly, this is important because if you came up with a solution for the risk before it may not of been a long term solution meaning you will need to review to check that people are still not in danger. For example something that will need to be reviewed in a care home will be the electricity, things that plug in the care home need to be checked for faults incase a resident was to use it and get an electric shock, these will need to be check more than once as a fault may come up after the last time you checked it and could still put someone in danger.

Health and safety policies and procedures are very important for the staff and safety to follow this is because if they don't they could be putting someone at a serious risk. The staff should be trained in these procedures and policies as soon as they start their job, they may also be given a document stating them and will also be taught them on their induction. The first and one of the most important procedures will be fire training, this will mean that the staff know exactly what to do in this situation and where the exits are. The procedures and policies in place are always there for a reason and that is because if they are not followed it means that someone could get hurt or their health is at risk. An example of policies and procedures that people should be aware of a in care home are:
To keep the care home tidy and clutter free: this is because the elderly may trip over something and as they are old and frail it could lead to a serious injury.
