Annemarie didn't tell Ellen the truth about great aunt Birte because it might have been safer for Ellen to believe in her than to know she doesn't even exist.
2. I think the people who came to the funeral are actually people who are friends of Uncle Henrick and mama but are not familiar to Annemarie.
3. Annemarie and mama implied in that line at the part when Annemarie said to herself that they had both become equals which meant they both can feel each other's thoughts and feelings and that they could also tell each other was lying to Ellen.

Annemarie didn't tell Ellen the truth about aunt Birte because it can be safer to believe that Ellen actually believes that aunt birte really exist then not believing that aunt birte doesn't really exist since Annemarie is trying to protect Ellen
2. I think the people who are arriving to the funeral were Uncle Henrick's friends since great aunt birte doesn't really exist so they had to act like they were friends of aunt birte
3. Annemarie and mama implied in that line at the part when annemarie said to herslef that they both became equal meant that since they had to lie to Ellen they
both are lying so they became equal and also they both can feel how they are feeling since they are lying
