        After explaining the honorable reason for writing the book and after outlining the historical context, the author described a meeting organized by the communist party attended by religious representatives from different areas of Romania where they were forced to lie about the relationship between the church and communism. 

      Refusing to compromise his faith, Wurmbrand expressed his honest opinion about the intentions of the communists, an action that later cost him his freedom. During his 14-year imprisonment, Wurmbrand and his wife  were subjected to both physical and psychological torture. 
   
        To provide insight on this matter, I would like to highlight some of the instances of torture endured by the couple. Sabina, being the first example, went through various trials. Following her husband's disappearance, she attempted to file a report with the police but was told to forget about him and move on by remarrying. Later, as she was compelled to harbor two unfamiliar men, she was compelled to send her son, Mihai, to live with his aunt. Subsequently, Sabina was taken as a slave to assist in constructing the Black Sea Danube Canal, where she became a beacon of hope for other political prisoners by using biblical verses and songs to uplift and inspire them.

     The events described in the book provide a more detailed account of the man's experience. Apart from enduring constant beatings, starvation, and inhumane living conditions, he was also subjected to various forms of psychological manipulation. He was promised freedom if he renounced his faith, but when that failed, he got lied to about his family's situation, with false claims that his wife had remarried and his children had accepted communist beliefs. Finally, they tried to break his spirit by gaslighting him and attempting to undermine his faith in God.
 
           After some time, a new strategy was implemented, and all the religious prisoners were put together in the same cell. However, this did not necessarily lead to unity among the prisoners, as they held different opinions on religious matters, which caused arguments and conflicts. Moreover, due to the constant psychological manipulation, some of them chose to give up their faith in exchange for freedom, which further diminished the faith of the other detainees.

         As a final attempt, the authorities placed the pastor in a mental institution, where they subjected him to various forms of psychological torture in an effort to make him doubt his sanity.

      Theoretically, the purpose was creating a society in all the countries of the earth where there is full socio-material equality between people.
    As good (or as bad) as it sounds, this is not possible unless you restrict people with potential by reducing their possibilities to evolve and you put pressure on the people without potential to force progress.

       In my opinion, one of the most remarkable moments is when Richard is imprisoned, beaten, threatened with death, and pressured to renounce his faith but he surprises everyone by taking the hand of his tormentor, placing it on his chest, and calmly stating that he feels no fear and his heart beats just as steadily as before.

       The most impactful statement made by Richard, which can be considered the main message of the book and reflects the complex history of the connection between Christianity and communism, is "I hate communism, but I love the communists." These words were spoken by the Lutheran pastor whose love for God overflowed in everything he did and said.

          This unassuming individual not only made the decision to pardon those who caused him immense suffering, but also regarded his experiences as a gift, a chance to demonstrate to others what it truly means to place one's trust in God. Like the apostle Paul, Wurmbrand was able to discover contentment in times when many of us would have surrendered all optimism. Therefore, he continued to serve as a living proof that genuine satisfaction is not obtained from external conditions or accomplishments, but rather by aspiring to exceed one's present situation and become the most excellent version of oneself.

    These aspects are important because during his time he sparked extremist opinions that have been preserved to this day among the Romanian people.
    On one hand, from an economic point of view it was one of the most flourishing periods that our country has experienced because Romania became the only country with 0 debt. Also, the Black Sea-Danube Canal, the subway from Bucharest, thermal power plant from Anina, the House of the People  and tens of thousands of new blocks of flats were built back then.
    On the other hand, from a social perspective it was the "black spot in our history" because the investition in the buildings we mentioned earlier created so much debt, it became a burden for the Romanian economy. And, even though they managed to get the debt reduced to 0, it was the people who paid the price for it by getting deprived of some of their necessities like food* or even liberty to express themselves or work for their own benefit.
      Taking into account the historical atmosphere of the communism, in the following we will refer to the cultural aspects of this ideology, mainly its religious regard.
