1. In 2019, Tati Westbrook, a fellow makeup artist who has collaborated with James Charles in the past, along with fellow Youtuber Jeffree Star and Singer Zara Larsson accused Charles of disloyalty and attempting to seduce a heterosexual man. In response, James Charles posted an 8 minute video which was widely panned. He then posted a 41 minute video titled No More Lies where he more comprehensively dismantled the claims by Westbrook.

2. In light of the claims made by Westbrook, James Charles became the first Youtuber to lose 1 million subscribers in the span of 24 hours. However, after posting the second video, support for Charles was restored and many started to criticize Westbrook. Westbrook eventually posted a video claiming Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson manipulated her into posting the video.

Was this a good use of cancel culture?

1. On November 5, 2021 at least 10 people were killed in a crowd crush incident in Astroworld. He was shown briefly ordering security to help an audience member who was injured before continuing on with the performance for another hour.

2. In the aftermath, Scott's history of disregarding audience safety was highlighted. News outlets referenced an incident where a fan was paralyzed in a 2017 show, and his 2015 guilty plea for reckless endangerment after he encouraged fans to climb security barricades. An article by the Los Angeles Times contained analysis by safety experts who argued the deaths were preventable. Another point of criticism is how Scott halted a performance in 2015 when his shoe was stolen but did not do the same when audience members were dying. Scott's actions were widely admonished and he eventually made an apology which was criticised by many for being disingenuous and unsatisfactory.

Was this a good use of cancel culture?

1. On January 3, 2023, Bartolome wrote on a Facebook post, "Bakit may sad dahil back to work na? Trip ko pa nga pag may work ng January 1 dahil superstition ko may work ako buong taon pag ganun. Diba dapat masaya ka kasi may chance ka na pagandahin buhay mo at ng pamilya mo? Dapat grateful kasi may work. If work makes you unhappy, I hope you find a job that will. ‘Yung pakikiligin ka and sheet."

2. Many found her post to be incredibly insensitive and thought that her privileged background was obvious. On January 5, she posted a statement clarifying her previous words. Labor lawyer Luke Espiritu used this as an opportunity to shed light on the working conditions of many Filipinos in a Facebook post.

Was this a good use of cancel culture?

1. On a May 8 Facebook live, Kim Chiu made a confusing comparison of the law and the ABS-CBN shutdown to classroom dynamics. "Sa classroom may batas, bawal lumabas, Pero ‘pag sinabi, ‘pag nag-comply ka na bawal na lumabas pero may ginawa ka sa pinagbabawal nila, inayos mo ‘yong law ng classroom niyo at sinubmit mo ulit ay pwede na pala ikaw lumabas," she said.

2. Many people, including herself, found this statement and comparison to be nonsensical and because of this, she became a media laughingstock. A song was made which included parts of her comparison as lyrics.

Was this a good use of cancel culture?
