In this essay I discussed on the importance of collaborative partnerships and explained key principles of building a community with the support of literature and theories. I also discussed my own personal values of building a community which involved building relationships through trust, respecting diversity and knowledge of available support networks. I strategies that are used in my centre to promote collaborative partnerships between teachers, parents/ whanau, community and children. For example I had mentioned encouraging parents to be involved in culture days, we encourage the knowledge and contributions parents bring to the centre. In this assessment I researched on how Maori and Chinese celebrate their new year noting the key similarities and differences between the two. I have used this knowledge to inform my practice for example I now have the knowledge of Matariki to plan learning experiences for children. I include and celebrate cultural events of children from all cultures as it gives them a sense of belonging.
