Halong Bay is a beautiful place in Vietnam, Asia. Its a 3 hr drive to get there from Hanoi (capital)
Halong Bay was declared as one of the “New Seven Natural Wonders of The World”. Including over 1600 islands and islets, Halong Bay has incredible limestone pillars, and loads of caves. We went on a small boat and a Vietnamese woman rowed 6 people with just 1 paddle! And then she took us to a floating island and then put us on another boat which took us to a fishing village where people lived in floating houses which were very small and made out of wood. After, they took us to a oyster farm where they grew pearls.
Many of the islands are covered by thick jungle and only monkeys and birds live there.

Halong Bay was peaceful and very pretty especially the sun rise.
the only thing that wasn't very nice was that there was quite a bit of rubbish.
Flynn

Thousands of people visit the Falls each day on the Horn blower cruise to feel the spray. When all of the lakes had gone they left salt at the bottom and a bit of water on the surface. It is the largest coral reef system in the world with 2,900 reefs and 900 islands. Coral creates calcium carbonate which forms a hard shell like skeleton. The Coral Reef is home to a variety of organisms, including fish, stingray, sharks and sea turtles. There is over 1500 species of fish, including the famous clownfish which features in Finding Nemo. It is a popular tourist attraction contributing to the economy, whilst drawing in 2 million visitors each year.
Climate change is one of the biggest threats to the Coral Reef due to warmer ocean temperatures bleaching the coral, this lead to a decline in species that need the coral reef for survival.
Quick facts
-The Great Barrier reef is the size of about 70million football fields.
- Due to the sheer size, Astronauts can see it from the moon.
-It contains some of the deadliest species like the box jellyfish and stone fish.

The islands that make up the Hebrides are: Cole, Mull, Tyree, Lewis and Harris. I've been to Lewis and Harris which are sort of stuck together in the middle.
We traveled to Harris on a ferry, from Skye, it was massive. The beaches, scenery and animals were beautiful. We saw dolphins and Highland cows and a lot of sheep. For some animals its a hard life living on the islands. Scotland gets affected by rain and wind storms a lot. We saw wild, black rabbits where we were staying and a loch, with a boat house. I think the Outer Hebrides is such a wonderful place, despite the snow and rainy weather, because of the beautiful things around you such as nature and scenery, you can look at the boats moving along the water.

Skye

Salar de Uni is in Bolivia which is in South America. This was formed by lots of prehistoric lakes. The youngest prehistoric lake was called Coipasa which was formed 13000 years ago.

This created a large flat area. It may look like ice but however after lakes had dried up they left salt below the thin surface of water. This creates a mirror effect which reflects the sky. The Salar contains 10 billion tons of salt which is enough for lots of fish and chips. Salar means salt flat in Spanish.

There is a small amount of life there but there are giant cactus which grow 1cm per year up to 12 meters tall. Flamingos also breed there.

By Izzy

Angel Falls in Venezuela is the highest waterfall in the world and is 807 metres tall. This is 19 times higher than Niagara Falls! The towering waterfall drops from the top of Auyantepui mountain. The mighty cascade is named after Jimmy Angel, an American pilot who landed on top of Auyantepui in 1937 while searching for gold.

Angel Falls was formed more than 130 million years ago. The dense surrounding tepuis jungle makes it feel as if you have gone back in time to a prehistoric age. The tepuis jungle was the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 1912 novel "The Lost World." A century later, millions of tourists visit Angel Falls every year.

* Mont Blanc (French for "white mount) is the highest mountain in Europe.
* It is situated in a large mountain range, the Alps, which spreads South-East France, Northern Italy and Western Switzerland. Chamonix (pronounced shah-mon-ee) is the resort that Mont Blanc is located in.
* It is around half the height of Mt. Everest - it is 4,810 meters tall, Everest is 8,848 meters tall - and you can tell it is easier to climb as the fist ascent of Everest was in 1953 and the first ascent of Mont Blanc was in 1786 - that is 167 years earlier that Mont Blanc was first scaled!
* The glacier on Mont Blanc is split into four parts; the Mer de Glace, the Argentière , the Bossons and the Miage. They run downhill on the mountain itself.
* The Mer de Glace is the most famous part of the glacier.
* Last year I went to Chamonix in the summer. I went for a walk up a small mountain and along the top of the valley to the bottom of the Mer de Glace. As glaciers move slowly downhill, they pick up lots of dirt and rocks, which all eventually ends up at the bottom. Therefore lower down where we were, the ice had quite a few grey and brown streaks in it, but in the distance, higher up, it was a lot cleaner and whiter.
Thanks for reading,
Daniel Backhouse

Parapenters with a brilliant view of Mont Blanc

Now that's a lot of parapenters!

Big Ben
Big Ben
Big Ben got its name from a massive bell that hangs inside the building. The name Big Ben is a nickname for the building in this day and age.
Building Big Ben was no piece of cake, it was actually worth a lifetime for some people then. To us now it's no biggie but it was back then when there was less machinery etc. It took thirty-four years to build.
I think it's wonderful because of all the detail. It represents England and it's something that we all know very well.

Statue of Liberty
Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty was built in 1882 in France. In 1886 it was given to the United States to celebrate the friendship between the 2 countries during the American Revolution.

The Statue of Liberty has shown freedom and democracy of the United States.

The Statue of Liberty is made of copper which turns a blue, green colour with age due to a chemical reaction between metal and water. It is called patination and occurs when most coppers are outside.

The Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island in the New York Harber. It is exactly 151 feet (46 metres) in height and 305 feet (93 metres) from the ground to the torch.

Halong Bay
Halong Bay

Great Gable
Great Gable
The Great Gable is a mountain in the Lake District.

It looks like a pyramid from Wasdale but as a dome from most other directions. There are lots of ways to reach the summit.

The highest point of the mountain is 2,949 feet and the views from this point vary depending on the weather making it a very popular for walkers.

Stonehenge
Stonehenge

- It is located in Wiltshire, England and is one of the most recognisable sights in the worlds.

- There were originally only 2 entrances to the enclosure, a wide one to the north and a smaller one to the south.

- There have been many excavations and the site was considered to be in a poor state.

- Stonehenge consists of a ring of standing stones that have fascinated archaeologists and the general public for many years.

- There are many different theories about how it was built but most agree it was between 2000 and 3000 BC.

The Pyramids of Giza
The Pyramids of Giza
The Pyramids were built by
Pharaohs Khufu (tallest), Khafre
(background) , and Menkaure (front). They were built as tombs for the pharaohs to fill with objects they would need in the after life.

The Pyramids of Giza are the oldest and sole remaining intact wonder of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.

The Great pyramid is thought to be constructed of over two million stone blocks.

The Northern lights are normally only spotted by people further north.
They are usually green , purple, red or blue.
People travel for miles and pay a lot of money in hope of seeing the Northern lights which are a huge tourist attraction.

Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is the official home of the Queen and Prince Phillip.

It was built in 1705, but Queen Victoria didn't move in until 1837 on my birthday July 13th.

When the flag is flying the Queen is at home.

The Palace has 52 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 for staff and 78 bathrooms (that's a lot of toilets to clean!)

Thousands of people visit Buckingham Palace each year when it is open to the public. Approximately 420,000 visitors pass through the doors each summer and the Queen also holds garden parties for invited guests, which my Mum went to once.

The Outer Hebrides
The Outer Hebrides
Found at the edge of the Atlantic, and experiencing some of Europe's worst weather on Scotland's wild west cost.

Salar de Uni
Salar de Uni

Leaning Tower of Pisa by Joseph Parnell
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most remarkable structures from medieval Europe.

It is located in the Italian town of Pisa. Standing at 60 metres tall, the Tower leans at a 10 degree angle. Although it was designed to be vertical, it started to lean during construction.

The tower began to be constructed in 1173 and continued for about 200 years! It has eight stories including a chamber for the bells, as it is a bell tower. The bottom story has 15 marble arches. The next six stories contain 30 arches! The final story is the bell chamber, which has 16 arches. There is a 297 step spiral staircase inside the tower, leading to the top.

The tower is still one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy, and it's name will be remembered for generations.

Castle of the Moors (Sintra)
Castle of the Moors (Sintra)
It is a hilltop medieval castle in the municipality of Sintra, near Lisbon.

Built by the North African Muslim Moors in the 8th and 9th centuries.

The castle was built to protect the population of Sintra.

The castle was damaged by an earthquake in the 18th century and was restored by King Ferdinand II.

We visited the castle by riding to the top of the hill in a tuk, tuk, this was really fun.

The views were fantastic as you could see the Atlantic Ocean and Lisbon.

Mont Blanc, the Alps, Southern France
Mont Blanc, the Alps, Southern France

10% of the world’s known species live in the Amazon rainforest.
20% of the world’s bird species live in the Amazon rainforest.
It is home to around 2 and a half million different insect species as well as over 40000 plant species.
There are also a number of dangerous species living in the Amazon rainforest such as the cougar, jaguar and anaconda.
While the protection of the Amazon rainforest remains an issue, deforestation rates have been reducing while areas of conserved land have been increasing over the last 10 years.
In both 2005 and 2010 the Amazon rainforest suffered severe droughts that killed off large amounts of vegetation in the worst affected areas.

The Great Barrier Reef is found in the Coral Sea off the coast of Australia, near Queensland.

Venice is made up of 118 different tiny islands all connected by its 417 bridges.

The city has exactly 177 canals and is sinking at the rate of 1-2 millimeters a year.

Venice with it's 160 square miles of total area and 3 feet of elevation was not built directly on the land of the islands but in fact on wooden stilts.

Venice was built approximately 1500 years ago and is home to one of the narrowest streets in the world which is only 53cm wide and called Calletta.
