Answer these three questions beneath your diversity rationale: What is the theory-of-action behind the rationale? How strong is the evidence for this effect? How might you try to measure it at UIC?

Learning outcomes can be measured in several ways both inside and outside the classroom. One way is to have students within such a course keep a required self-reflection (journal or diary entries) about the topics learned in the course during the semester that can be shared with the class and read by the instructor(s). A second way to measure within the classroom is to have students record new things (such as perspectives) learned within the course (through survey, self-written record kept by the student, etc.). Another method to measure would be to see if racially/ethnically-motivated incidents decrease over time on the campus by examining such data gathered from campus police and other offices dealing with such measures. Another measure is to see if there is an increase in participation in racial/ethnic groups on campus or increase in development of activities by such groups on campus.
