More non-muslim nations were later added to this list. The name that many gave it was the “Muslim Ban”. While it is said to have been created over national security concerns of terrorism, that idea can easily be refuted by statistics. This ban made it difficult for many families because they were not allowed in the United States but there was war tearing through their home countries so they did not want to go back there either, which left them with very few places to go. All this did was create stress, anxiety, and lots of trauma, as well as it made it harder for families to find a safe place to live and work. It also deprived many of their human rights, like education. All of this happened over the discriminaition of something that people had no control over (their skin color, nationality, ethnicity, culture). Many want this ban to be repealed as well as others that discriminate against Muslims in other ways, but this still won’t be enough because of the overall trauma that Muslims have experienced.]]> 2022-01-01 21:25:54 UTC https://padlet.com/allisonacampora2023_1/j1zx8r30hz0jnt06/wish/1970314373 allisonacampora2023_1 https://padlet.com/allisonacampora2023_1/j1zx8r30hz0jnt06/wish/1970314480 I am not Muslim nor am I from a nation where immigration into the US has been banned, so I can’t explain what it’s like or how it feels but it will always be so sad to me that these people, who usually only have kindness and good intention in their hearts, aren’t able to work towards improving their lives and reaching for better opportunities. Many of these people who want to come to the US are from places torn apart by war, like Yemen and Syria, and have dealt with so much horror and just want to get away from it all to provide themselves and their families with safer lives but are rejected and not even given a chance to prove themselves worthy of being there. Also, generally many immigrants are looking for a place to go to school to get a better education for a specific career that they want to go into or work and a good salary that can give them a nice place to live and a comfortable lifestyle but they don’t even get the chance to try because they work so hard and give everything up and then are told they are not able to come into the US. I find it so dehumanizing and horrible that these poor people don’t get to do something that all good humans deserve the right to do all because of the color of their skin and/or the religion they practice. In the Roaring Twenties, this fear was based around communism as suspicion of immigrants being communists increased. In modern times, this fear of immigrants, specifically Muslims, has to do with terrorism as there have been terrorist attacks done by certain radical groups from the same nations as innocent Muslims. Back then, the huge issue was alcohol because many immigrants saw alcohol as an intimate part of social life and they tended to oppose prohibition which struck up some conflict with many natural-born Americans.
