After the attempted theft, the woman grabs him and we see Rodger starting to get anxious, or cowardly as he gets dragged. The woman tells him not to mess with Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. Mrs. Jones takes Rodger into her home where Rodger is allowed to wash his face and eat. During the time in the house, Rodger gains a trustworthy reputation with Mrs.Jones after she left the door open but he didn't run. He says that he didn't have anybody at home and we learn he's a lonely boy. Mrs.Jones gives him money and then he leaves to get shoes he wants.
