However, not all addictions can be medicated for. For cocaine addicts, amantadine is the medication used. It mimics a cocaine "high" by increasing dopamine activity in the brain. For opiate addicts, altrexone is the medication used.This drug blocks the receptors so opiate users will no longer be able to achieve their high. The other medication for opiate addiction is methadone.
